Re: PULLEY PLATING

In '69 for the Camaros the pulleys were phosphate plated (crystalline black finish) and later in the year and into '70 they were painted black.

CAR IS A FIRST WEEK OF JUNE BUILD I HAVE SEEN THE PULLEYS BOTH WAYS AND NOT SURE ON WHAT IS CORRECT

Re: PULLEY PLATING

The earlier '69 production had the plated pulleys, by June '69 I would think the painted pulleys would be most correct.

The plated grey pulleys look way better then painted. Is there any original cars after june with plated pulleys?I usually plate the smog grey even for the later then june cars.Is this the wrong thing to do?

Re: PULLEY PLATING

Looking at the '69 Camaro smog pulleys most of the original 458 smog pulleys I've seen are painted black. I don't think I've seen the nearly black manganese phosphate plated pulleys used much after early 1969. My Jan. '69 built Z had the nearly black plated 458 pulley. Original mid-year '69 smog systems I have use the painted pulley.

Remember this thread? SHP BB set up from a July built COPO. Pulley is painted. I recall plated pulleys had a hard-stamp part number, ink stamp on painted pulleys.

Re: PULLEY PLATING

I think the later '70s NOS painted 458 pulleys were the ink stamped version? The '69 painted 458 pulley was hard part # stamped as were the same pulleys into '70 certainly.

The GMPD service #3932458 pulley circa 1980s was painted black with an ink-stamped part number. Bought some in the CPX days; think list price was about $5.
