California License Plate Reissue Black/Gold
Has anybody in the state of California ordered and received the reissued black/gold license plates?
I heard a comment that they might be plastic instead of metal. I just wanted to check before I went and ordered them. Anybody?? |
Re: California License Plate Reissue Black/Gold
The DMV told me they are aluminum and 7 digits.

That's just so wrong! |
Re: California License Plate Reissue Black/Gold
Thanks Jason! I already have what I want on the plate. Now I need to convert it to the black/gold style. It'll fit the Caprice better.

They are pretty much giving them away at $50 customized or not so what the heck. Let us know how they are.

They are made of the same material as the rest of the Ca DMV Plates. Feels like Aluminum.
I see them more often as the weeks go by. Seeing them on newer cars JUST BUGS ME!!!! Otherwise they look better than i though |
Re: California License Plate Reissue Black/Gold
Well, I'm going to AAA tomorrow morning to see what the deal is. I'm going to see what's involved in getting exactly what I currently have except in black/gold. What I'm wondering is how long it'll take to get. I'd have to turn in my current plates to release them from the system and that's the problem. I wouldn't be able to drive without plates on the car while they're getting made. There's a car show in Long Beach (Belmont Shore) coming up September 13th that I registered for. If I can get them before the show I'll do it. Otherwise I'll wait until after. I doubt they can guarantee a delivery date. The Caprice will look a little different with black and gold plates.
Thanks wagonman for confirming the material. I saw the link that Jason posted and I agree, not on new cars. |
Re: California License Plate Reissue Black/Gold
So, the trip to AAA gave me the information I needed. For me to change over to black/gold, I'd have to bring in 1 of my current license plates (the one with tags) to them along with the filled out plate request form. They keep that plate, lock in what the plate says so I don't lose it, then they issue a temporary permit for the car so it can still be driven. I wait and then they contact me when the plates come in. Not too painless except for the 10-12 weeks they say it might take. I'm going to wait until after the September 13th show to do the change over.
