Painting front end parts....what color gray?

Hello,

I am redoing the front end on my 70 Chevelle SS. All new Moog tie rods, center link, etc....
So I was bouncing around on team chevelle and there is a mixed bag of answers on the right color of these cast iron pieces. I have Eastwood Spray Gray and Eastwood Detail Gray. The Detail Gray is much lighter. The Spray Gray is the exact color of cast iron. I am leaning towards Spray Gray/ cast iron color but so many front ends are painted the lighter steel gray. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!
Anthony

I bead blast and then dip them in quick black. I then spray them with a light oil. ECS has a product called RPM that is good as well. Tumbling is better than bead blasting if you have access to one large enough. But - this is for a factory bare metal look. I do that for restoring an original part to a correct finish. But - for something you want to drive - I guess painting would be far more durable and less maintenance.

If you want to have them natural like they left the factory, bare metal and rpm work nice. The center link on a camaro has a dark finish, possibly related to heat treatment along with the piece that bolts to the frame. I cleaned mine and used a gun bluing kit to blacken them. I noticed a friends 68 442 today looked dark also. I think I treated mine with rpm after bluing

Here you can see bare metal where I bead blasted compared to the dark factory finish
