Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Hey guys---need some help verifying that these 2 bolts could be the original ones found on the '69 Camaro on the RH side of the radiator. These are used to mount the radiator to the radiator support. They were given to me along with other original hardware that was replaced with new when the car was restored back in 2007. The description is...two shouldered bolts that are 1 1/8" overall length, 1/2" head size, used original black phosphate finish on them & have these head markings--the letter "M" inside a hexagon surrounded by three hash marks. Has anyone here disassembled their car and found these exact bolts? See pics down below...
Thanks for the help, Sal https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-rad_bolts.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-rh_bolts.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ad_bolts_3.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ad_bolts_4.jpg |
Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Sal, I cannot speak specifically about these bolts coming out of a radiator mount on a 69 Camaro but can say that I have several of these exact bolts that I have collected over the years from tearing down 69-70 Camaros and Chevelles so I know they can in fact be found as original on these cars. Hope this helps.

I believe those to be of a much newer design, because the threads run all the way to the tip. O E bolts in 69 had the pinched end. |
Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Thanks a lot Rick and also to Sam Scardino. Just wanted to make sure before I post them for sale as I have other hardware I have yet to go through and post.

Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Hey Mike, if you could post some pics of what you have that would be great. I've also heard that different bolts from different manufacturers may have been used also.

Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Sal In the 69 Camaro AIM, radiator and fan shroud, UPC 11/13, B4, item #2 Is listed as 3960314 with R1 next to the pn. R1 dated 10/68, states it WAS # 9780422 Both of those bolts are shown on AMK PDF file pg. 117 row 3. (all 3 picture in row 3 ) It looks like the 0314 does have the threaded point, AMK lists this as a 1970 body bolt. And 0422 is listed as a 64-69 bolt. So, just going on the AIM, that bolt you posted could have been used ?? What is the build date on you TT ? Maybe Shauger or Chris White can add something, being Vintage certification guys ? Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Mike the build date on my car was 1st. week of May 1969. Yes, I've also seen that the AIM shows this.

Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Those are post-69 bolts. I don't recall all the details, but that tip is a design that JohnZ came up with to prevent crossthreading.

Re: Trying to verify original radiator mounting bolts
Agree, never ran across that tip on a 69 car I have taken apart.
Kurt, over the years when refering to the 69 AIM on hardware issues the revision date of 10/xx/68 seems to be in the manual allot, any insight on that ? Mike |
