Dash Carrier Assembly
I'm restoring a 69Z and am working on the dash carrier assembly. Refinishing this im a little confused as to what to do?
Refinish the black and paint the highlited areas silver - or send it out and have it rechromed? What seems to be the current practice when doing a restoration? Also - who does the rechroming?? Cost?? |
Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
If i remember correctly Mike Mancini's American Muscle Car Restorations (site sponsor) did the restoration on the dash for my COPO Camaro...turned out nice.

Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
Fred is correct. They do very nice work. Expect to spend much more than the method you first suggested.

Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
Who does the actual chrome work for the edges on the dash carrier?
I have not seen anyone really advertise this service? I have mine all tore apart - and ready to paint it - just stuck on going the chrome route vs the silver paint? anyone else? |

I recall a thread a few years ago discussing silver options in detail.
Paint pens, silver foil, etc |
Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
Eddie, From what I understand the whole dash would be plastic chrome painted then you'll have to paint what you don't want chrome. Some strong household chemicals when applied properly "Deletes the un-wanted chrome" There are many plastic chromers out there. The best place to find them is eBay....under plastic scale models...automotive....search for chromers, re-chrome , chrome shops. I sent some stuff out west,I believe Ca. a few years ago, can't find there info though.
Tom Martin By the way , my 69 Z is coming along nicely.....I posted some pics on site about a few diff Day Two subjects and Info on a MOROSO B-M glass hood I have. again thanks for your help |
Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
oops...not plastic chrome painted..BUT Fully chrome plated ....then you paint as desired the dash assembly.....

Re: Dash Carrier Assembly
I just sent my '69 Nova dash assembly (the speedo, gas gauge cluster and housing) to Instrument Specialities. They redid everything, rechromed, calibrated, painted, fixed broken threads, etc. for around $1100.
