Ive had a few people ask me for copies of the docs from my Zl-1 I owned. Sorry Ive not gotten around to it sooner, but I've finally got around to taking some pics of the docs. Sorry for the bad quality. They are still in a glass frame.

Also has copy of the original MSO and GM finance papers from when car was re-distributed to Govans Chevrolet in June 1969 and
car was finally sold in June 1970(a year later) for 4800 bucks !!!

Car also has with it copy of old COPO Connection docs. listing me as owner and also Jerry M. certs.

This first doc. is a letter from Fred Gibb before he died documenting the VIN, options on the car, etc.

now Auto Shipper delivery docs to Gibb Chevrolet dated 3-7-69.

Seems like an imprint of the protecto plate???

But why BE Silvers? and 030954??

Interesting that drivers initials are BE ?? coincidence?

Also says car has 399 miles??? always wondered why.

Also identitity number is same as cowl tag numeber.

this is the doc Gibb created documenting Norwood picking up the cars to be redistributed to other dealers dated May 24, 1969. Not even 2 months after car arrived on his lot!! This is the only time in history of Chevrolet cars were returned!! 37 cars were returned because they could not all be sold for the list price of more than $7100. Gibb only sold 13 cars himself !!

399 miles is the trucking distance from Norwood OH to La Harpe, IL. The cars were returned to get $250,000 [1969 $] off the dealership GMAC floorplan. Chevy initially quoted the cost of COPO 9560 at $2000 or so. Actual cost was a bit higher.

There is a guy that lives by me and said that he was a salesman at jerrys and that was one of the cars that he started up every once in a while to keep the battery charged and just to hear it run.

Thanks William, was wondering about the 399 miles... also is that a protecto plate imprint?? How about the word that seems to be crossed or x'd off on the Shipper?? It is very hard to see on my pics. though. Im sure you have seen other shippers for these cars..thought you might know.

thanks

No problem..sorry to the members that I told I would share a long time ago...

Neat thing about this car is that I got all the paperwork only years later after I owned the car !! I also bought the car only years later after I bought the original aluminum motor !!

The prior owner of the car actually found me after he found out I had the original motor for years. The owner of the paperwork also found me when he found out I had the car.

It is neat how these original cars and motors, and paper are finding thier way back together !!

Re: Gibb ZL-1 Docs.

That's not a POP imprint; looks like something from the trucking company. I thought the Gibb files contained the check-in sheet that would have the imprint.

The bud that had the ZL1 met with Gibb in the '80s. They were both former Chevy dealers and hit it off. Gibb said he had tried to order the cars heater delete but by '69 heater/defroster was federally mandated for North America. The ZL1s were an enormous burden for him, not just financially. They didn't sell, took up space. There were theft problems so they put up a fence. They regularly moved them into the building at the end of the day. There's a great article about the dealership in the August 2011 MCR.
