Exhaust manifold paint

Doing over a set of exhaust manifolds for the L79. What is everyone using to protect them from rusting?

POR 15 Manifold Gray.....Painted my manifold 9 years ago. They look as good today as the day I brushed the POR on.

I have had good luck with the POR-15 product...I have also used the "Detail" brand 1200* paint with good results.

I know I'm in the minority here, but....Isn't light rust correct? Bead blast them and let nature take it's course. Without the rain, snow, daily driving and being stored correctly, they should look perfect for a long time. I've never seen gray manifolds from GM, cast yes, but gray? Never.I have a few sets that have seasoned perfectly this way.

Jason, send them to Gene Schaffer @ Central CT Coatings. They have a practice of ceramic coating them and then laying a top coat of GM natural cast grey. I've done 10 pairs of manifolds and they come out better than new.

I am with Big! If that doesn't work for ya just drive it weekly and that will keep them looking correct!

If it ain't rusty, it ain't real

In rust, we trust

May the rust be with you.

I think painted manifolds look great and certainly, everyone should do as they see fit. As for me, I prefer the patina of rust but, I'm an NCRS geek.

I've always had great success using Eastwood Company's Factory Gray Hi-Temp Coating. It replicates the look of cast iron on your factory manifolds. Here is the link. Good luck!
