Anyone here sleep with ear plugs?
 

I am a very light sleeper and my wife snores; consequently we often times sleep in separate rooms. I have tried some foam ear plugs and for the most part they work but, after a few hours I wake up with pain in my ears and have to take them out.

Anyone else have a similar situation and, if so, what solutions have you come up with? I miss sleeping with my wife but, if we try sleeping in the same room I hardly get any sleep. (No she does not snore THAT loud, it's just I am a VERY light sleeper).

My wife snores so loud and deep that I have to use earphones to watch TV in bed or go back out to the living room. She gets up to go to work at 3 AM and I can take them off then. Then and only then can I get some decent sleep...if you can call 3 or 4 hours, sleep.

Had the same problem until I found these: SLEEPPHONES. Unlike earplugs, the microphone fits against your ear and is comfortable to lay on. I got a free app for my iphone called "White Noise" that has a lot of different sounds you can choose from. I listen to pink noise which sounds a lot like a fan. I start out the night with the volume low and if his loud snoring wakes me up I just turn the volume up until it drowns him out. Works like a charm for me and now I can't live without them!

In all seriousness the snoring could be a symptom of sleep apnea and should be addressed with your Doc.

I agree with the sleep apnea check up but you should also look into the 'white noise' solution. The 'white noise' can help.

I sleep with a 2nd pillow over my ears, not from the wife, but from the insects and birds outside [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif[/img] But I did have a problem with noise when I was in the hospital. I used my hearing protector (padded headphone like thing) that I wear on the lawn tractor. They worked well, so I could get some sleep, except the nurses kept waking me up at 3am [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/laugh.gif[/img] You just have to sleep on your back though.

I've tried many different foam ear plugs. Some blocked out most of the noise, some made my ears hurt, some somehow fell out over night. For me, the bulk bag of orange foam ear plugs from Home Depot are the easiest to insert and block out the most noise.
