Old Can-Am / Trans Am / McLaren sbc engine ???

any guesses on to age / application?

I want to say it is the short lived Trans Am engine ...

Supposedly never run ... "the Mclaren would have been dry sump'd and had the genuine McLaren alloy valve covers. so both the valve covers and the oil pan are just on loose."

any wag on value?

pics (all I have right now):

It's a whole lot more Can Am than Trans Am. Be really cool if its one 430 or 494 inch versions.

I have NO idea what kind of block that is ... the heads are odd too as they have Winters casting marks

Re: Old Can-Am / Trans Am / McLaren bbc engine ???

the block cast numbers are easy to access...they are actually shown on the rear view foto...but too hard to read...right below where the heads bolt on...the cast number is on the pass side, very obvious..there are sometimes numbers on the drivers side also...

a few observations..i believe they are stock ZL-1 heads as I see the extra head bolt that only came on the ZL-1's.... also the block has screw-in freeze plugs(now welded)..that is typical of a production block, as opposed to a Yenko type block...although I'm not sure on the Can-am blocks. I do see clearancing for the rod bolts which I assume could mean a large stroke..possibly a big-cube motor?...I also noticed the stamped numbers with x's near the oil filter deck...looks like possibly O-???? ...probably a stretch, but maybe an internal GM number that was x'd out later?? and how about numbers on the side of the block near the motor mounts?? anything there??

The crank has weigh added too[bigger cubes and possibility stroker].

just confirmed that this was in a McLaren Can-Am car ... guessing it is a specific block?

Will try to get the block numbers

Tough to see clearly but does the subject block casting end in 711 and possibly an 0-326711 Can-Am block?
Here's a thread link where we noted some of the different ZL1 casting #'s here a few years ago.
