I probably sound like a broken record however I will have to hand it to rollers, solid or hydraulic. You can get everything you want as far as drivable and not give up anything over a flat tappet when it comes to performance. If you are not wanting to drop the coin for a roller and want a nice hydraulic you could go with the factory L68 vette cam or L71 if you want a solid, with the 4 spd you have options.

What intake & carb do you have on this? I think these are cast intake & qjet on the impalas?
At any rate, I have a 454 that made 450hp & 530 tq spec`d as follows (very mild combo) Crane 284 hyd flat tappet cam (228 @ .050, .544 lift on a 112) 10.5 comp. cast iron GM qjet intake Qjet carb Ex manifolds (dyno numbers with headers) ported 049 heads with bigger valves Has a slight lope (stock musclecar sound) but pulls like mad... 530 tq came in at 2500 rpm... |

Crane 133801. I used one in a very mild 9-1 427 that ran 12.70's in a 3600 lb Camaro in the Ohio summer heat (can share details if you wish, don't want to clutter up the thread).
Outstanding torque from right off idle, pulled hard to to ~5500 rpm. Slight lope, less noticeable than an L78 cam (also another outstanding choice). Beautiful car BTW. |

Triple black is so cool! Can you post a picture of the trim tag on the firewall? I'd be interested in seeing the pop too (with the owners info covered) as I maintain the 67-69 Impala SS427 registry/database. A friend of a friend has a 67 SS427 built about 1,300 before this one. They were probably built the same week.
Have you checked for a broadcast card under the seats? Yours is the 75th 67 SS427 in the list. Warren |
