Yenko Chevrolet records question
lets say around the winter of 1970 Don Yenko sold a guy named Tony Delorenzo a Corvette that was a recovered theft, would there have been a record? and might anyone reading this have those records? yes it did happen and yes the car in question is the third of three Owens-Corning built race cars...thanks in advance!

yes I have, thanks. I am looking for someone with Yenko Chevrolet records who might tell me what the car started life as. |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
We don't really have any of those records. You might contact Warren Dernoshek. He was a mechanic there and has some files. He might have something or remember the car.

I would be happy to, can you direct me to him? thanks in advance |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
thanks, I found Warren and he has no recollection of the car, I guess it will be the only piece of the puzzle I will never find. here`s the car as painted by GM styling engineer (and Owens-Corning fiberglass racing team member) Randy Wittene racing in Germany 1971-1972

Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
if this car was raced as in the pic. theres quite a few people to contact about it. Wayne Ellwood runs the Registry of Corvette race cars and has huge amounts of knowledge and resources. Wayne can be reached through facebook real easy. Secondly is Kevin Mackay, hes a world class vette restorer with close ties to such men as Dick Guildstrand and Tony Delorenzo who should be somewhat involved in the history of this car if it was anywhere near the OC racing team. Kevin has ties with some of the most historic vette race cars ever. Dave Heinz's Rebel #57 L-88 and the DX Sunray cars as well as the Leldon Blackwell L-88 vettes....chances are he knows the car.
Wayne can be reached here: Kevin can be reached here: http://corvetterepair.com P.S. i posted your pic and info with the Registry of Corvette Race Cars. Lets see if the collective group of fellas has any info. Ill update with anything kicked back to me. |

It is the documented third of three Owens-Corning fiberglass racing team built cars. I was just hoping someone might have a record of exactly what Don Yenko sold Tony Delorenzo back in the winter of 1970 when the O-C team built the car. |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
yeah i see that now... wayne just filled me in. amazing car to own my man, its definately got some neat history to it. Wayne said you have it painted in the OC colors now. id love to see some pics of her if you have a link. i wish you the best of luck on your search.
btw... are we gonna see this ol girl at Watkins in Sept for the Historics? Sure would be great to see it. |
Re: Yenko Chevrolet records question
If you can get one and haven't yet, would an NICB report perhaps offer anything useful as even if it's as shipped RPO type info you're after, the more in hand the better when seeking new trails to pursue.
Besides original dealer where shipped new info, even though the theft and recovery was waaay back when an NICB report could still include the theft/recovery dates also hopefully more info like where/who/etc? You didn't mention the year of car but if a '70 model, comparing Vin/build date w/ the theft/recovery dates and a fruitful NICB report may help indicate if the car was perhaps stolen new from Yenko's inventory or something he'd picked up after recovery? Also if the original delivering dealer was Yenko or other, knowing it may provide other avenues to pursue? Lastly, what was the orphaned Owens/Corning paint hood only floating around loose a few years back? Others probably recall it too as we looked at it on a thread here when on eBay or wherever then, pics may exist in the thread if you don't know it and we can find it again? Best o' luck w/ your quest! ~ Pete |
