Re: 1969 z28 cowl induction air cleaner
Can someone state with certainty whether this is an original GM part?
Not trying to bash the seller, just needing some confirmation. |
Re: 1969 z28 cowl induction air cleaner
Its not a flat bottom so its not an assembly line installed piece.

Re: 1969 z28 cowl induction air cleaner
The later ridged design was used starting late July/Aug of 69 time frame. I own two survivor cars a 9A and 9C and both have the ridged bottom.

Re: 1969 z28 cowl induction air cleaner
Yes, some of the later cars got a ridged bottom air cleaner. Still, I believe this one is a reproduction as the vent tube has the two 45 degree bends instead of one 90 degree bend.

Re: 1969 z28 cowl induction air cleaner
Original GM air cleaners have some noticeable forming wrinkles as compared to reproductions. I've heard original GMs came with both a 90 and 45 vent tube.

Later made GM over the counter,(not used on the assembly line during 69/70),cowl ind. air cleaners,(w/o thermac),came with a vent tube that now had two 45° crimps in it,but still showed heavily defined wrinkling.
The Taiwan reproduction market and eventually stamped C H Q,copied that later design but ignored the wrinkling altogether. It's a very nice part, but I agree, this looks like one of those,as the real ones used on the assembly line during 69/70 had the one 90° bent vent tube with heavy wrinkles, along with a noticeable notch cut out in the center of the snorkle seam. Two 45° crimps shown below. |
