Hey Rich,

Grady and I were talking about this today and were specifically discussing correct a/c filter elements and Grady remembered detailed photos of the l78 nova. I am not sure it was a Harrell Nova. Article was posted on here within last year.

Looking for examples to support what I think is correct ac filter element for my 06A built Baltimore Chevelle SS. My phot below was taken 2nd day after delivery and looks to me (Grady too) to be a diagonal mesh, diamond (not square) shaped mesh.

This a photo of another L78 '69 Chevelle with what appears to be a similar diamond mesh screen.

Sam, I always thought that the square mesh was assembly line but maybe it was just the early cars?

Sam, your picture is definitely diamond mesh.. I can tell by looking at it... I just looked at the July 69 Hot Rod article on the Nova Grocery Getter and the 375 horsepower Nova motor does have the diamond mesh air cleaner on it!! I would post a picture but I am having problems currently w/downloading pictures to my computer.. But I am 100% certain it is diamond mesh in the picture..

It's hard to tell when and why they stopped using the square vs. diamond mesh.. Why use one instead of the other in the fist place?? Must have just been a supplier thing and when they switched suppliers it went to a diamond mesh...
They probably used both through 69 into 70 but who really knows....

Sam,

Here is a link to the November 1968 Pop Hot p15 shot you might be thinking about.

I thought I had the July 69 Hot Rod 13 Second Grocery Getter posted on my site. It does look to be diagonal mesh. There are a few other 68 and 70 articles there. The 68 L79 Chevy II looks also to be diagonal mesh. As does the Car Craft September 68 Only One in Town. As does the June 70 Super Stock article L78 Nova.

After a quick review of the articles I have, I do not see one with a square mesh. However there are plenty of differences in the magazine cars from what is accepted as the norm. Heck if the pictures were posted here as a car to critique, it would be cut to shreds. As example the Hot Rod May 68 L34 car has plastic buttons holding the inner fender flaps in.
