1967 starter date code question.

Should the starter for my 67 L36 be dated <span style="font-weight: bold">before</span> the engine assembly date?? Or was the starter installed later on when the car was going down the assembly line?? The assembly date on my motor is may 23 1967, I bought a june 17 1967 starter. The car was built july 11 1967. I'm wondering if I got the wrong date? Thanks.

Re: 1967 starter date code question.

Flint &amp; Tona added the starter motor after the engine was fired up &amp; stamped with a build date &amp; suffix code in the engine test room and headed for a deemed vehicle.
...But that doesn't necessarily mean the starter motor <span style="text-decoration: underline">has</span> to be dated after an engines running assembly date,as the starter motors were pre-ordered ahead of time and waiting to be added on,when various other dated components were added later on.

I think your fine with what you have found,as the vehicles cowl tag assembly date is what you don't want to really be after.
And although uncommon,it's not impossible to find an original unmolested engine, still holding it's original unmolested starter motor, dated before the engines running assembly date.

Rick,
I don't think that's true. The engines were shipped without starters and the assembly plants installed the starters on the engine dress line. So the starter needs to be dated before the car's build date.

That's what I said.
It should be after the engines assembly date, not the vehicles' cowl tag date,in general.

I was confused by what you said. There was mention of 'pre-orders' and this statement: <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Mr70</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Flint &amp; Tona added the starter motor after the engine was fired up &amp; stamped ....and headed for a deemed vehicle.</div></div>

Neither engine plant dealt with starter motors at all.
BTW, it actually headed for a railroad car.
