Vacation In Maryland
Not exactly my idea, but it's great to see family and friends again.
Spent the first part of the day at a friend's mechanical shop. He works on everything, old an new. Here are some interesting cars (or what's left of them) he now has. http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-002-L.jpg Ever since I knew him, 20+ years, he's had a Chevelle frame with disc breakes and a 12 bolt in the back lot. I'm surprised no one ever stole anything off it. Well, here's the body that belongs to it. http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-003-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-004-L.jpg 20+ years ago, a mechanic that worked for him bought this Chevelle to restore. Rumor has it this is an original L78 car, but of course the engine is gone. It was disassembled, parts stored here and there, and the body was put up on 55 gallon drums with wood planks supporting it. Sheet metal was cut off it, new sheet metal was purchased and place near the car (outside), then the work stopped. http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-005-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-006-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-007-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-008-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-010-L.jpg http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-009-L.jpg My guess is somewhere along the line, the rear fell off the "rig" it was sitting on and hit the rear. 1/4 is bowed out. '86 Z28, 106K on it, low HP 305, 5 speed. Is actually all there, intact, and has original (shot) paint. Interior is dry so the t-tops don't leak. Original paperwork is in the console. Gonna try to buy this from the owner this week, if he has realistic expectations. http://onewaystreet.smugmug.com/Cars...5-21-026-L.jpg The left front door was full of water, so I peeled back the door panel and scooped out a bunch of crud. Also opened up the drain holes. So far, the shell is not rusted out. There were ants crawling all over it today. Might go cruising tonight. |

Re: Vacation In Maryland
Here's where this '68 body was. Yard work and trimming was done after the removal. Rotted drum and wood planks are there.

BTW, made an offer for the '86 today. He's going to think about it.
