Vacuum Booster plating Color
 

I know this thread has been talked about before but I can't find it. 1970 chevelle LS6 Earley Car Leeds Plant,I have a survivor engine compartment and the brake booster for some reason was painted black..I stripped the black and underneith found dull silvery gray with 5-10% of Low lusture gold, Has the usual light rust from the master on down.
Should I leave it or plate it, and if I plate it is it the high or low gloss gold or more of the silver/gray. Any help would be very much appriciated.

Ken - If u intend on keeping the engine bay "survivor" status, i would leave the booster as is (dull silvery...) If you plate it, the booster would be too distracting and would no longer be considered survivor....IMHO.

Survivor status ain't for the faint of heart (particularly if you are a car show goer!). Just ask Bill Pritchard with his beautiful survivor '69 Chevelle convertible!! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif[/img]

I would leave it like Sam said. Can't plate it and leave everything else survivor status. I had to rebuild my alternator and carb on my SS nova and did not do anything to it but clean/soak and rebuild. Looks like the rest of the car.

Thanks for your input. I know if I plate the booster it will stick out like a sore thumb. If I leave it should I some how try to remove the small rust showing underneith the master down to the bottom of the booster, I guess it's like a bit of patina.
If I remove the rust/pitting it might shine it up in that area and look terrible.
What's your thoughts

The only thing you may be able to do is use some safest rust remover on the booster to kill the rust and keep it from spreading. Check out the thread on NJ Steve's Trans Am for all kinds of tips about it...

Ken, are you loosing sleep over this brake booster? Do what Mockingbird told you to do. Move on to another question that we can help you with. Use some WD-40 on the booster and then stop lookin at it! :0)

I don't know what the effect the safestrustremover will have on cad plating. It will remove blueing and black phosphate on bolts, though.
