Chi Town

Does anyone from Chicago circa 1965 remember or have any pics of the "Project Apollo" 65 gto? It was blue w/a black top.Blown and injected 389.Aluminum interior, tilt glass front end.Had a graphic(paint) of a missile on the side. Used to dominate on Elston ave. Also anyone who might remember the "Street Sweeper" mustang? Probably the only one who could take out Apollo.Or just anyone who's raced on Elston Ave.

I raced and spectated the Elson scene. Lived in Bucktown on Damen ave. Had 59, 63, 64, 66, 68, and 70 Chevys. Remembering E&R, Von Esser, Speed Service, Nickey, Motorsport Research, Mr Norms, Skips, Bon Bons, Super Dawg, Willys, Harlem Outdoor, and Pie Pan. My wife, then girlfriend, ran the Elston blockade one night. Also raced my cars at US 30, Union Grove, Rockford, and Lake Geneva. 99% of my racing was on the street. Won some, lost some. Bought all my Chevys at Brigance Chevrolet. I remember the 'Sweeper', not 'Apollo'. I also remember the only black guy who raced cheek to cheek with us white boys. Name was Ernie, owner of a 55 Marina Blue Chev with a one piece front end. Powered by a Fulie 327. Nice guy.

The guys I hung with called themselves the Bucktown Bandits. Sat around mostly at Moffat and Damen, one of the old fountain/candy stores.

Anybody remember using DA Speed Sport oil and a can of STP Oil Treatment? This combo was the preferred lube in our cars.
