Corvette Rally Wheel Restoration

Can anyone provide me with pictures of an original or a correctly restored rally wheel? I am looking for paint spray patterns as well as any suggestions for the proper paints.

Thanks,

Tim

Sorry No pics. But I use DP 90 black epoxy and spray the whole rim, then without masking the rim at all spray the front with silver and let the over spray go where it does. Thats how the factory did it!! Long Island Corvete Supply and Quanta Restorations have the right silver.

Tim,

I have a set of NOS 15x8 Corvette rallies collecting dust that I can shoot for you. They are still black with their stickers on them and not silver though. If you think they will help let me know and I will try and get you shots tomorrow. If there are any specific areas you are looking at let me know that as well.

Have a great day,

Mike

I believe originally it was an Alkyd enamel. I have the code at the house if you need it.

Mike,

I would like one that has the Argent already. I am going to restore the set on my LT-1 Corvette and just want to get it right the first time. I REALLY appreciate the offer to shoot them! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Best Regards,

Tim

The code would be great. This is for a 70. It is my understanding (be it right or not) that 70 had a little more of a green tint to it. ???????

Thanks,

Tim

A wheel for your car would have had, most likely, A LOT of green tint in the paint. It would have had runs/slags as there was minimal care taken to prevent it.

When the argent was applied to the front, the paint continued through the openings right on to the black back and created substantial coverage.

One brand of wheel weights was Micro. No metric sizes were used and there was a pink color applied to indicate location and/or size.

The PICS shown are from original tires, wheels, weights and valve stems. In my opinion, they indicate what a factory fresh wheel would have looked like exiting the assembly plant. The wheels are, however, RESTORED. There is never a better example than an original, non restored component in good condition to give the best example of 'how it was' in the day.

Mark

I have a set of 4 'day 1 take-offs' from a '70 Corvette at home in the garage. I'll try to remember to get one down tonite and get some shots for you.

That would be great. Thank you everyone for your input. I'd like to give a shoutout to Rusty Small. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif He hooked me up with the Goodyear Wide Treads at a great deal!
