302 rods
can some one tell me the difference between 302 pink rods and 302 0 rods.
thanks |
Re: 302 rods
0 rods simply have the 0 marking on the forging. Just an internal identifier. Virtually all the 350 rods from 69 were 0 rods.
Pink rods start life as 0 rods but were magged and then shot peened to relieve stress risers. Then, from the second half of 68 model year, they went to a floating pin piston, so the floating end was machined, then babbit dipped (babbiting is the surface material on most bearings) and final honed on the small end. The babbiting reduced friction. Similar result as having the small end bushed with bronze. Final step was to spray pink paint on them as an identifier. Not very uniform. However, original engines torn down decades later still show signs of the pink paint. Hope this helps. |
