Re: ZL1/L88 198 intake, NOS 074 heads
Thanks. The 07118 is not a casting date. Is the other head also a '72 date?

I have been trying to figure out if it is July 11th of 1978 or 1988 but it IS definitely a casting date. Maybe someone on this site can answer that question. Here are a couple of pictures with similar dates. Re: ZL1/L88 198 intake, NOS 074 heads
Kurt,
The last year these heads were cast was 1976. I've had several sets and have done quite a bit of research on the 3946074 heads, especially since I own the cars these came on from the factory. There are also particular stampings that separate the assembly production heads from the over the counter heads. I was hoping your dates were for late 1970. Thanks, Warren |
Re: ZL1/L88 198 intake, NOS 074 heads
So Warren, are you saying that both of these heads were cast in 1968???
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...LIBLW1pVPi.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...tingDate-1.jpg And that these are cast in 1969??? http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...G0HyBLR682.jpg These are a given...they're 1973 http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/100_2378.jpg IMO, the first head was not in 1968. The numbers are cast just like the '73 head. Which to me says it was cast at least sometime in the '70s. The second is 1968. The third...I have no clue. Although I have seen cast iron 291's with similar castings for dates that were over the counter heads. |

Just to add to the date pictures, here are some 1970 dated 074's.

Re: ZL1/L88 198 intake, NOS 074 heads
Just saw your post up here on the 07118 head. I also have a set that are both cast with 07118. They are cast where the date is so it has to have something to do with date coding. Was wondering if you had found out any more information?? Not sure how to post pictures on here or I would share the pictures of these heads.

Re: ZL1/L88 198 intake, NOS 074 heads
Is it possible when they were cast the date was installed backwards? 81170? Are there other examples or are they all the same code. This could indicate that a particular casting run the date was mistakenly setup wrong, just a thought.
