How do I maintain a white convertible top?
My wife's Belvedere convertible has gone through a full resto and has a white convertible top. What is the best way to maintain the top to keep it in good condition and to keep it from yellowing? What products do you recommend?
Thanks. Brian http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...reTopUp800.jpg |
Re: How do I maintain a white convertible top?
Well Brian, back in the 90's I had a 69 Firebird with a White convertible top. What I used was a "foam" cleaner. Spray it on, spread the foam around with a fairly stiff brush, wait several mintues and then scrub with the brush. Don't know if it's still available, but what I used was "STP Tuff Stuff". I think Turtle Wax also had a similar cleaner. Worked great for me.
Hope this helps and good luck. |

Brian, you should keep it out of the hot Carloina sun...best thing would be to ship it up to me...in cold and gloomy NY https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Love that body style...the car looks great!! What engine..?? Some of the other experts will have an answer about the top...I'm just a fan. Good luck..wilma |

Don't let any sea gulls or birds poop on it! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Ditto on the bird poop https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
Seriously, as long as the car will not sit outside or see any real weather, and will not be driven on a daily basis, I don't think you'll need to do anything more than routine cleaning. Over the course of many years, it will develop a certain patina, but that's a good thing in my mind. My 69 Chevelle still has the original white top and it really does have patina. |

Put it down!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
I like Vinylex, will protect, maintain and also clean it. I installed a used, original white convertible top on my Chevelle which was dirty and I used a "mixed cocktail" of Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and Magic Eraser Pads along with lots of elbow grease and it came out looking great!! Her first car ride was in this car when she was a newborn! Her parents restored it and gave it to her on our wedding day in 2007! I said resto but it's more like "resto-mod" because it has a 291 ci Hemi out of a '55 DeSoto, 700R4 trans, SSBC 4-wheel disc brakes, 4:10 posi, Keystone Klassic wheels, etc. I'll post a thread with more pictures in the "Other Muscle" section when I get a chance.
