1968 SS Camaro Project (Looking for Info)

1 Attachment(s)
I purchased a 68 ss camaro that is LOS built. It has a --- custom paint code and was painted what I believe is a thinned down version of Carolina Blue (possibly for a UCLA fan). The car had no motor or transmission but has BB motor mounts, heater coil pipes in BB position, and a 6K RPM redline tic-toc tach. So I believe it truly was a 375HP 396. What I a looking for if possible documentation on the car. I kow that from 1974 until I bought the car a year ago it had spent it's life in Bakersfield owned by tow brothers (Shawn and Derral Mills). It also had the words "Wild Turkey" painted on the back of the spoiler. If anyone knows if there was a spacific dealership that might have been ordering cars painted this way I would appreciate know that. I have attached a scanned photo of the car from 1974. I have more photos I can send. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

That's a really cool find. Do you have a clear image of the license plate frame? It could be the original dealer it was purchased from if it didn't come from a used car lot.

I can honestly say that the fuzzy image you have posted looks like it has a DANA Chevrolet license plate from on it. In fact I'd say I'm about 98% sure that's a DANA license plate frame. If that's true, you've got yourself a real gem. Of course without any of the original DANA paperwork or sales information, you're kind of out of luck making it really amount to any collector value. DANA sold new and used big block Camaros...along with other high performance Chevrolets. Too bad you don't know if it was ever a 427 conversion. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Here's a clear one:

Looks like a Dana plate frame to me, too! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Thanks for the info. I tried cleaning up the picture but it is a scan of a photo. I am going to contact the guy I bought the car from and see if he will send me the picture. Being that I live in Oregon and am just learning of the Dana history is there any chance of finding documentation on cars they sold?

Thanks again for your help.

BTW Dana it seems that Dana ordered quite a few Special Order Paint Cars... KevinS has Milt's old Dana special order orange 68 RS/SS with a 427 Tripower in it...

I had a 68 Z that was orange and believe it came from Dana as well.

I am not sure if you ran a query on the dealership that originally received the car. This information is now being offered through NCRS Historical Services. This will be an additional source of information that will assist you in better understanding your car's origin.
