Canadian COPO

I have two questions about 1969 Canadian 4 speed COPO Camaros.

1. Would they have had smog?

2. If the block had been replaced under warranty in 1971 what block would have been used as a replacement? A 512 - 427 or 454. Or possibly a different casting numbered block? Wouldn't the 427's have been out of production for some time by 1971?

Thanks in advance for the help

Rick, Im pretty sure they all had smog US and Canada...as for warranty blocks..my COPO had a CE block installed in March of 71..a Dec of 70 512 block..built as a 427..but here's the kicker, they had to replace one head and used a 291 instead of a 840..I guess thats all they could get new..only one example...butr I have paper to prove it

They also had retarded timing, with a very slow advance curve, and leaned out carb with #68 primary jets. With headers, jetting and a good advance curve, it was pretty easy to knock more than a half second off the quarter mile times. Those who just bought the cars and drove them could never quite figure out why some cars were so much quicker than theirs. The answer was actually simple enough that I even had it most ways figured out. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the reply. Al, if you have paper on your warranty work that tells it all.

Thanks
