Story is the original buyer somehow didn't order a 4 speed, and the three speed is the standard trans offering, just like all other GM cars except L78s,L72's, Zs etc. With a bench seat, they put it on the column. I have the correct column floor shift ring, as well as a correct Nova bench seat shifter with new box and rods.

I had a 3 speed 69 Camaro L78 but it was a floor shift

The black '66 Acadian Post car we all here looked at last year on Bay was and still is an original L79 3-Tree car too..

I used to have a '69 427 L36 390hp Impala SS with factory HD three speed on the tree with a factory console shifter delete plate. Yes, I still have a copy of the build sheet, but sold the car in 1990.
