67 L78 3911 Carb.

Will bypassing the smog pump affect the performance of the engine/carb.? What was the GM fix for 67 smog pump/Carb backfire?

A faulty diverter valve or even a loose vacuum hose to the diverter valve can cause a backfire situation. The carb may not be part of the problem.

Re: 67 L78 3911 Carb.

I am a ways from completing my 67 Z build and I was just curious if the engine would run correctly if I just ran a short bypass hose from the carbs smog inlet to outlet, therefor omitting the smog pump completely?

Pardon for not being specific. I read somewhere that GM experience backfiring problems during 67 for some reason and I have forgotten where I read this or what the corrective action was.
