14 x 7 IF wheels
I have a pair of IF wheels dated Aug 24 1968. Does anybody know the application for these 14 x 7 wheels. They are very similar to XT wheels.
Oldsmobile used XT and IF wheels starting in 1970 but did not offer a 14 X 7 in 1969. What could be the application? Firebird Nova Does anybody have access to an assembly maniual for the F or X body in those years to see if the IF wheel was offered as an alternative to the XT. I am looking to sell these. Paul |
Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
I had a '69 Firebird coupe (350 2bbl, factory Turbo 400, A/C, same one I used the Por Glo on) that sported dog dishes on IF 14x7 rims. I wouldn't be surprised if '69 Grand Prix's with wheel covers used them as well.
I still think its funny that Pontiac would put 7" wheels on basic Firebirds and Grad Prix's but couldn't find a way to get them on GTO's until 1971. |
Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
The XT and IF wheels were built off of the same blueprints. I have heard that some of the Los Angeles built 69 Camaros show the IF wheels on their build sheets. Most common use for the IF wheels were Pontiacs. I have personally pulled quite a few off of 69-70 Grand Prix's w/hubcaps. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
I had a very orig 69 SS 396 Camaro that I bought off a elderly couple that had Mag style hubcaps and it had both XT and IF wheels. I'm sure they were orig to the car.

Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
The explanation of IF wheeld being used on Pontiacs GP's with the deep wheelcovers makes sense. I had a 72 Cutlass with wire wheel covers and they would fit on a IF wheel but not on an XT wheel. though very similar to the naked eye, the Hub of an If does heve some differences compared to an IF.

Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
I recently acquired a full set of five IF wheels that were original to a 1969 Grand Prix hubcap car.

Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
I have had both side by side and could not see any difference.

Re: 14 x 7 IF wheels
My 69 SS Camaro (Van Nuys) buildsheet show the IF code on it. There were at least 2 different suppliers of IF wheels. NT or Norris Technologies and M (??cant remember the name). There are subtle differences under the hubcap and the stampings between IF and XT. Dimensions are exactly the same.
