1111170 distributor markings

I have a 170 distributor which appears to be a low mile take off, I would like to know what the purple paint marking means???? Also there appears to be a J on the Vacuum unit. What would this mean aswell??? Thanks https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

According to Colvin, the paint stripe is to identify the distributor without having to read the number on it.

from what i've seen and have herd most of the solid lifter cars had the purple marking on the dist

Thanks for the help https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif. Can anyone tell me whats the going rate for this particular distributor???? This one does not have a date code close to the build date for my car, would like to get the correct date code. Thanks.
