1974 L82 Camaro z/28 intake issue

Just got my car back together and noticed after driving it, that the intake manifold looks like it got real hot right under the manual choke coil. Any thoughts? Doesnt seem normal to me. The other side looks like it got hot but not as bad as the pass side center.

Were there supposed to be block plate in front of the heat riser passages on this application?

Could be. I recall metal block off plates that came with the intake manifold gaskets. Maybe thats it. I suppose I am going to have to take the intake back off!!

That is your exhaust heat crossover at work .The only problem you may be experiencing is the thermo valve on the pass side manifold tail may be stuck closed or opening late .

Steve

Yes I have noticed it has been sticking. That may be the problem. Thanks!

For summer time running you could block the heat riser valve open. With our L78 I just added the GM heat shield under the intake, blocked the heat riser and double gasketted the carb. End of problems. I felt that I was getting far too much heat to the intake for warm weather use. In colder weather it is definitely needed for drivability.
