Problem with cowl induction hood
Does anyone have problems with their cowl induction solenoid working and then not working. I have replaced the wiring harness, solenoid and the flapper. It all works when attached to a battery but when I connect it to the hood I can put a test light in the wire and it works but when I hook the solenoid up to the cowl it doesn't work. Am I having a ground prolem? Should I run a ground from the solenoid to the hood?

Re: Problem with cowl induction hood
Yes, your not getting a good ground. The solenoid bracket should have a small tit pressed into it so when you tighten up the solenoid that tit should bite into the solenoid housing. If your solenoid has paint on it, even clear that could be the problem. You might even remove any paint that is on the inside of that solenoid mount to improve the ground.
2nd place to check is the solenoid frame that screws to the hood. This is less likely to be the problem since there are so many screws holding it to the hood. The correct type screws will bite into the frame. If you want to confirm all this, clip or hold a jumper to the solenoid and attach to a good ground and try it. Seen this problem several times. Let me know what you find. Mike |

I think the biggest problem I have had in the past is the relay on the firewall wasn't getting a good ground.

Re: Problem with cowl induction hood
I helped a friend w/ a repop set up recently and we had issues with the reproduction switch on the acelerator arm.
Took two different switches from Classic. I think Mike is right on ground, ground ,ground..A little sandpaper and a meter will allow you to chase the problem. Jim |
