Re: ZL-1 number ONE
If I remember correctly, that car had to be redone also as it had a fire while in the trailer...I remember I could have bought the burnt fender at a car show one year from the car. That must have been a fun paint match.
Correct me if I am wrong. |
Re: ZL-1 number ONE
There was no matching, complete repainted. The car was toast.

Re: ZL-1 number ONE
------Yup!!!,,,Dont put car covers on your car while towing, even in an enclosed trailer. If I remember correctly, something happened to one trailer tire and it leaned over touching the side of the inner fender. Fender got so hot that it caught something on fire and that caught the cover on fire. Bill told me the story in detail a long time ago, so I hope I have it substantially correct. When he redid the car he did say that it came out better than the first time around........Bill S

Re: ZL-1 number ONE
A leaf spring shackle broke, tire was rubbing on inner fender that had cardboard sitting on it. Cardboard caught fire. Bill has burn scars on his arms from the fire as he was saving the car.

Re: ZL-1 number ONE
Quite a heroic act on Bill's part to save a piece of history. The car could have been easily lost forever and we'd be talking about how the Number #1 ZL-1 was restored and then burnt to the ground shortly afterwards being a great loss to the Supercar world. Thanks to Bill, that didn't happen. You could even say that he's saved that car three times: the first resto, putting the fire out, and then the second resto! I seen the car right after the fire and to this day, I can still remember the smell.
