Acid Dip or Media Blasting!!!

Has anyone during the restoration process had any experiences with Acid dipping or Media blasting for stripping cars? It appears to me that the acid dipping is a alot cleaner process.

I have a car that was dipped, metal worked, then dipped again in a E-Coat primer sealer but chemicals from the stripping never seem to completely get removed from the seams in the welded panels where they lap over each other. I would not do it again. I would media blast.

Thanks Charley,

I have heard other stories of the same sort that the left over material that cannot be removed comes to haunt you later. How does the media do with areas of rust??? I have heard they use various materials such as crushed walnuts to baking soda?

I agree with Charley. I had this conversation last week with a body shop owner/friend doing his 50 original Buick. His concern with dipping was that it could open up rust issues down the road by not being able to prep/seal concealed areas where the sun won't shine. He opted to chemically strip the car after removing all the panels, bumpers ,stainless and glass. I have heard good results with the Walnut shell blasting also. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
