Pulley part numbers and codes?

How do you decipher the letters that follow the part numbers stamped on pulleys? What does DV versus BV stand for? Are pulleys date coded? Is there a publication that decodes pulleys? What are the part numbers and the codes for a 69 COPO 427?

Re: Pulley part numbers and codes?

The letters are the broadcast codes. I have both listed for the 824 pulley in my Camaro fact book. Pulleys are not date coded. 291AB crankshaft, 824BV water pump and the 3.2" alt puley are the ones that you need.

I might have an original water pump pulley that I can sell.

Thank you for all the great information. This was a very big help as I do need all of the above mentioned pulleys.
Jerry, I mailed my check on monday so you should be getting it very soon. I am looking forward to reading your book. Please sign the book since I do not own a car that would warrant your signature on a certificate of authenticity yet. I really appreciate everyones help. I will have more questions for to come my project.

Re: Pulley part numbers and codes?

How do you tell repro's from originals. Do the size of the numbers vary? Do alternator brakets vary or have any certain stampings or different markings for the higher horsepower engines.

Re: Pulley part numbers and codes?

Easiest way to tell is usually the repros do not have correct fonts on the numbers that are engraved into the pulleys. The W/P pulley is even easier as the repros do not have the "bumps" on the inner hub.
