1970 396/375 Short Block #3969854

I have a nice standard bore 396/375 (actually a 402) short block for sale.

Story goes: this was a warranty replacement for a 1970 L78 Chevelle. Chevelle was wrecked in the early 70s and the motor was pulled, and sat until the mid 80s. The engine was freshened at this time but was kept standard bore. I don't believe the engine ever ran again. There is some staining in the cylinders from sitting so long but it is too nice to re-hone IMO. Previous hone marks are still very clear. The only odd thing about this motor is that it has a #3904815 cast crank.

The short block is currently disassembled. Block is dated December 1970 and has never been decked. The 4-bolt main caps fit nice and tight. CE1XXXXX is stamped cleanly on the pad. This is a very nice block.

Rods are dimpled and have 3/8" bolts. There's a new cam that I assume is stock, and the timing set also looks new.

I planned to paint and reassemble the motor but wanted to see if there's any interest in its disassembled state.

$2500 for everything, local pickup only please!

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks for the emails. At the moment I would rather not ship this. As requested here's a picture of the stamp, taken before the block was cleaned up:

I will sell the block separately if I can put a deal together for the rotating assembly.

Due to popular demand I will try to get a few additional pics up in a day or so.

Just realized the 4.155" bore is actually a 0.030" overbore.

I will deliver this block to a USF shipping terminal and enclose it in a sturdy crate at no additional charge.

"Local pickup" price reduced to $1700 (block only). Would like this sold before Xmas!

One more time...$1400 for the bare block assembly, local pickup only. I think you will have a tough time finding a ready to run CE 4-bolt block for this price.

I'll crate and deliver it to a shipping dock for an additional $100.
