1969 Chevelle Malibu Question
I am looking at a 1969 Chevelle Malibu that is for sale locally. I am a Nova man more so than Chevelle man and I was wondering how rare of package this Malibu is. Like I said it is a 69. Originally a 350 250 hp with a Muncie M20 4-speed. The car also has bucket seats and a console. I did not think many Malibu's would have a 4-speed with the console and stuff. Is this rare or pretty common for the year?? It is a Canadian car and all the options were coded original to the car and are still in it in good condition.
Thanks in advance. |
Re: 1969 Chevelle Malibu Question
It was pretty common around here. IA. Guys wanted a 396, but found they couldn't afford the insurance, dad thought that a 396 was to much hp, etc. So they ordered a Malibu 350 4 spd. Put on headers, mags, big tires, and were happy beating the heck outta what they had. Some were even pretty quick, and beat a few 325 hp 396s.

Re: 1969 Chevelle Malibu Question
Same here. I had an L35 in my '68 Chevelle but a friend ordered the 327 that came with a Saginaw 4 speed. White car/blue guts/buckets and no console. Cool car, and ran like stink. Finally found out,............. L79 car!
Even the '68 version of the L79 was a stout little package. |
Re: 1969 Chevelle Malibu Question
Any Canadian production car would be a lower production car and easy to document through Oshawa. It sounds like a decent car with a M20 and buckets but still not a desireable as a SS396 clone. A friend of mine had a Canadian built 300 HP 350, 4 speed, console, gauges, tach, 12 bolt posi and had to SS clone it to get the money out of it.

That's a bit hard to believe, unless the ultimate buyer was not made aware that it was a clone. |

Re: 1969 Chevelle Malibu Question
When my youngest brother was in college in the late 70's, he owned a 69 Malibu with a 307, buckets, console, and a floor mounted 3 speed manual trans....all OEM. I knew of several other 69 Malibus with bucket seats and console from the factory, albeit with automatic transmissions. So anyway, I think they were not so rare back in the day, but I would bet most of the survivors have been cloned into SS396's by now.

He had it for sale and no takers so he cloned the car as a SS. He was upfront about the car being a clone and still sold it to the first person to look at it. |

Dan. [/ QUOTE ] Dan. It was originally Lemans Blue and still has the original vinyl top. It looks to have been repainted at one time, but the kept it the blue. The other options that I decoded were the console (still in good shape), 4-speed M-20 Muncie, and front bucket seats (still in good shape as well). It looks like the car is overall in good driver shape, and all original. |
