2nd Gen Camaro brake question

Are the disc brake shields suppose to be painted or should they be the raw "galvanized" look?

In general raw galvanized, but I wouldn't be surprised if either of those assembly plants hit at least one camaros front knuckles with a fast shot of black protective paint, that could've overlapped onto the backing plate.Especially midwests own Norwood,Ohio as opposed to Van Nuys,Calif.
Chuck Sharin or Jack Seymour would be the ones to contact about this..

Hey does that mean the knuckle should be bare also?

I agree with Jack regarding galvanized. The 1970 Originals were stamped from Galvanized sheet metal. Norwood and L.A. 70 Camaros had NO paint upon the shields. The unpainted spindles and rotors, and brake calipers were left to surface rust, where not otherwise covered with petroleum residue.

The original early 70's Camaros dust shield had a somewhat sharp edge from stamping. Ive noticed later NOS parts dept shields have a folded over edge so as to not be sharp. I dont know the facts on when, where or why.

Also the galvanizing cant be replicated. You can zinc or cadmium plate on a resto, but not the same as OEM.......
