TI distributor

This distributor was given to me by the original owner of my black 68 Camaro. He used it when he set the class record at the Detroit Dragstrip back in May of 1969.Part number is
1111263 dated for the car.The coil is 207 and the amp is 1115343.The set up is in great orig shape just needs to be cleaned up.
I would like to put it back in the car but I dont know how reliable it is comapred to the orig distributor with the petronix. What do you think.

Re: TI distributor

I would think the distributor itself should be fine, as the trigger itself is nothing fancy, but the kicker will be how the electronics in the amp itself have survived? Steve Hodges (71-LS6) is up on these units, maybe he'll chime in...?

What class did your car run at the Dirty-D?

Re: TI distributor

#263 was an over the counter ball bearing race distributor with a list of around $1700. I think it also came with a ZL-1 crate motor. MSD made these obsolete but it`s still a good piece although there aren`t too many parts that interchange with the Corvette TI. You can put an ohm meter on the dist to check the magnet, I believe the range is 500-700 ohms. The amp is another story as they were quite troublesome, the Corvette vendors have a replacement board with 2000 technology, well worth the $125 or so....or you could use the distributor with an MSD box & coil.

Re: TI distributor

P.J., Dave Fiedler <tispecialty.com> can restore your distributor and amplifier as well as curve the distributor for your specific application. He can upgrade the circuit board in the amplifier making it less susceptible to heat and therefore more reliable. Dave has done two of these for my two crossram Zs and they have been bulletproof. It is important to follow the General's instructions when mounting the amplifier; it must be as far away from heat as possible. From the looks of that coil, you may want to find a new one, and it must be appropriate for a t.i., as they require a lot more fire. Dave would probably also recommend a new wiring harness. Good luck. You will enjoy not having to jack with points anymore.

No idea...but when I was researching the '59 Nats (held @ Detroit) all of the guys from that era referred to it as "the Dirty-D"...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

DITTO!
They're not MSD's but they work darned well, especially when you consider GM's TI system is nearly 50 years old. I loved mine on the street & on the track. As previously stated keep em' cool and keep em' dry.
