Big-tube Chevelle headers from 1969-1970?
My latest 69 BBC Chevelle project has been off the road since 1971 and I'd like to get it back to that 'Day 2' state. The fenderwells have been cut for the header style where one primary tube snakes around the frame. The only header I'm aware of with that design is the Hooker 2 1/8" Super Comp. Would that have been available in this timeframe?
Thanks, Tony |

Yes, Hooker Super Competition 2 1/8 were available in 70. A set was on the Truppi-Kling Chevelle. I believe the part # was 2365. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

-----Mike,,,If thats your car and even if it isnt, Im willing to bet that you know what brand headers those are!!! You, being from Mass, and the front plate pretty much give them away as being "Tubular Automotive" (Tubies to us New England gearheads). Many of us ran them and flattened the front tubes on a regular basis. It was a weekly experience for my cousin to have to cut out a tube or two and replace the flattened section, but they did make horsies pretty well!!! Dont they look mean from the front. Nothing cooler. Many guys running Tubies jacked their cars up in the front furthering the look simply to keep from damaging them........Bill S

I too have a set of those Tubbies. They are pretty wild and like others have said, little or no clearance underneath the car.

Re: Big-tube Chevelle headers from 1969-1970?
lets say i drive very slowly over speed bumps bill. i always liked the looks of things a little different. my buddy growing up had a set on a 70 ss 396-375 chevelle with an L-88 cam. i'll never forget the sound of him banging off powershifts at 7K with open headers. from 4k on up it pulled like crazy. we had another guy with a 71 chevelle ss with an m-22 crate L-88 and 4.56 gears and those hesders. it was a sound i'll never forget listening to him rope the gears from our favorite spot. it seems a lot of the nastiest street cars from the area(brockton)ran them. luckily they are real easy to install or remove off the car. its funny though, my car is really nothing special, just an old unrestoredss street hacker. but at most shows it seems to draw a few people because of them. mike

Hooker, Hedman, Stahl, Kustom, Casler, they all made them for the BB chevelles back then. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
