Drag radial
OK, venturing into the unknown...need some education on drag radials..will be using a 15X7 rim..thinking about a 8.5 or 9 inch tire..sort of want a stock look not too big..so... what do you guys use?..how well do they work..manufacturer recomendations??

BF Goodrich drag radials work good. Depends on what car/motor you are putting them on. 15X7 rims will be fine for 9" tires. Maybe 15X8's for a 10" tire. If its your chevelle you can probably fit a 10" tire. I had 275/60R15's on my BB 1966 Biscayne a few years ago and they worked good with 3.91's. I used to race pretty seriously in a street car shoot-out series and really like the BFG Drag Radial. I've gone low 10's on 275/60's. They measure roughly 28 inches tall and 9 inches wide. The Sticky Mickey Drag Radial is a superior tire and some people have gone REALLY FAST with them but it's really not something I'd wanna get caught in the rain with. Very little tread. I just recently purchased a set of of M&H Racemasters for the 'Cayne that I'm gonna put through the torture test. There not radials, but come from their line of tubeless musclecar tires and look really nostalgic and should be capable of putting some serious power to the ground.

I agree with Kwhizz the m/t tire far superior to the bfg.I have the M/T on my 86 Grand National and my 71 Nova and just love them they drive good and hook awsome. Ray

What gear are you using? That will be a factor in determining the height of your rear tire for track use. A 275/60/15 is tall and reduce your final drive ratio. Sometimes giving up a little width will reduce the rolling resistance and a shorter tire will maintain your drive ratio.
Lotsa guys have gone very fast with the drag radials, many of them have a retard box so they don't blow the tires off and can gradually add the timing in. ET Streets are a very good track tire with short trips to the drive in. Drag radials are awesome for a car set up specifically for them, or for a nasty streed car around town and maybe some highway. |
