Street Finals Reunion
1 Attachment(s)
In the early 90´s Power magazine arranged the European Street Finals here in Sweden, and also a World Street Finals in Orlando Florida. These included a Power Tour to prove that the dragrace-cars were actually street worthy. The World Street Finals in Orlando were arranged by the Swedish magazine in -93 and -94, but I believe bigger economical interests took over in -95.
I remember the names Jeff Stubbs and Mike Moran as 1993 winners in their respective classes. Mike was a hired gun in a red 1966 Chevy II. Victorious was also Ronnie Bergström from Stockholm in the Maroon Camaro shown in the picture. Some of you might remember the huge coverage in Car Craft of the Swedish cars. After the event in Orlando they took the cars to another event further north where they were banned for driving to fast (the strip wouldn´t accept the Swedish approval of their rollcages). I believe Åke "Bagarn"(the baker) wrote 10.xx on the windshield if his 1966 Chevy II, then beat a dragster with a 7-second run. He was banned of course, but we liked it ! Anyway, this Friday/Saturday Power Magazine held the Reunion to remember these events in the 90´s. I will show some pics from the reunion. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

Meca Raceway in Malmö is the only permanent dragstrip in Sweden. All other dragracing-events are held on roadrace-courses or small airports. M.R. is a 1/8 mile strip with narrow lanes but it is well maintained.
This what it looks like from the street. There were at least 20-25 first generation Camaros there today. The weather forecast was not so god so many cars and spectators that should have come stayed at home. |

Thanks guys ! I had to go to bed since I´m going to church today.
Here´s an odd one built here in Malmö on a Corvette-chassis. I didn´t talk to the owner but they said it in the speakers when he made a pass down the strip. I have never heard of any kits like this. |
