1967 Shelby Mustang drag car
|
I had a '67 SS Camaro with the fiberglass top trunk lid spoiler, and the original paint factory steel frame. It had the quarter panel scoops, along with double hood scoops. Owners son of Cormier Chev. Long beach was the original owner. Same as this car, untouched since 1970.

Kool video. This place was right down the road from NicKey Performance.
Jack Loftus Ford was the Chicago Land Shelby dealer and they were involved with all types of racing. They were a high profile performace dealer. Like NicKey Chevrolet to Chevy and Mr, Norm to Dodge. They were right down the road from Jack Douglass Chevrolet and in the 1960-70s Hinsdale Illinois was a very affluent Suburb (as it still is today). https://www.carscoops.com/2021/01/ra...r-1-5-million/ One of the prevalent US30 Dragstrip associations for race cars like this was the UDRA. Maybe they can find some old pictures looking up IHRA and UDRA. There is a UDRA page on facebook. |
They should spend more time talking to Arnie the Farmer. He was racing every chance he could get back then and is almost 90. We had a lot of fun with him at MCACN this year.
Also, they mentioned Ron Pelegrini who is one of the Drag Racing pioneers. He is no longer with us but was involved with building cars and the UDRA. https://www.nhra.com/news/2018/drag-...ni-passes-away If anyone it at the Pavilions in AZ and sees Al Gartzman a.k.a. 'The Last Mochican' run this car by him. He worked @ NicKey Chevrolet and was close friends with Dick Harrell. He was also at the drag strip every chance he got. |
Very cool. The sellers seemed to think the car was a Loftus race car. I hope the buyer creates some more content and we learn more about it, can't be that many cars it could be.

Talking to Arnie would be a great idea, that guy is super sharp and lived for racing.

Looking West on Ogden. |
The patina on that mustang looks like it was done recently in a shop
|
Check out both links, the car as "found" was black and the newer video is after they removed the black paint.
