Al, you really did a great job of showing all the important numbers on this car. Good pictures. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Tim, Thanks a lot. I figure you might as well show it up front because any serious buyer will want to see it later.

Gotta get another row of rocker moldings, you only have half the set on there!

Al, Last time the car was listed on E Bay you had a "Buy it Now" of $44,950. Is that still the number that will buy the car? Thanks, Marc

Wipers are on the car now and I am not sure what is meant by: "Gotta get another row of rocker moldings, you only have half the set on there!"

Somebody find a pic of the correct rocker molding setup.

Al, correct setup has 2 rows of moldings...lower section is the wide part with ribs and then a thin molding above it. Light colored cars got a black accent between the moldings...darker colors did not.

Like this....

Don't recall ever seeing a Nova with that double trim.

Thanks for the information. I love it when I can add to my knowledge base for the muscle cars.

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

What is the accessory code that would indicate a Nova would have rocker molding? If you have a vinyl top and on your trim tag the number 3 is present what options should your car have? What about the number 2? Please help.

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 07-03-2008 04:52 PM

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

You might want to throw some smog equipment on there and add the TCS stuff. The SB core support should also be addressed. It doesn't sound like much, but for the asking price a lot of folks expect those items to be there. They can live with the m/cylinder, painted hinges, non-SS headlight frames, non-painted fender gills, etc... which are more minor fixes.

JRSully 07-03-2008 05:37 PM

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

I would pull it off the market if you don't get your number. As Marlin stated, people paying that kind of money generally know the right and wrong items. It appears that most of the stuff is somewhat minor. Fix it, re word the ad indicating you corrected the following items.. yada yada. It will probably go quick at that point and probably for a little more $$ Good luck with it.

If I am not mistaken, RPO ZJ2 changed in 71 to not include the upper moldings. If this is a late 70 car it may not have gotten them. Nice car, it does need a few things but it's a super nice Nova. I don't see where it has to have Smog though, I see one manifold with plugs and one without so did it have smog originally or not? If not, I would change the LH manifold and not ugly it up with the smog junk. If the Nova is supposed to have the BB core support, I would find one quickly.

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

The molding issue is really a non-issue since the car has a single "A" on the trim tag...it had no exterior decorations.

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

TW has a valid point, according to our TT research, if there is no single digit number from 1-3 after the 'A' on the bottom row of the TT - then there shouldn't be any moldings on the car. So, it went from 1 set short, to 1 set too many! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

In reality, it's more work to remove the set that's on there, so it probably makes more sense to simply add the upper row and dress it up a bit. Rarely does someone poo-poo a Nova bec/ of a little gingerbread, it's when people short change the resto by not reinstalling the expensive moldings that a buyer looks elswhere.

Overall, how can you go wrong with fathom blue! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Marlin...

Who can tell me what code(s) are associated with the correct exterior / trim option(s):

A1 ?
A2 ?
A3 ? Thanks

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 07-08-2008 11:13 PM

Re: 1970 L78 Nova SS - Cash or Cash Plus Trade

The 'A' is a separate code altogether, and does not relate to the exterior. The single letter code indicates the color of various interior items and/or interior paint color. The 'A' indicates black, 'B' is blue, 'S' is sandlewood, etc...

The single digit after the single letter indicates the number of exterior moldings that were installed on the car. Although there were 4 exterior moldings, the max installed on a given car is 3. We believe that the rocker moldings were not included in this single digit number, but we need more info for that conclusion. So for now the possible moldings would be drip rail, door frame, body side and rockers. The only required molding would be the drip rail when a v/t is on the TT.
