'68 Yellow Motion Nova
Hey all,
Happened to remember that once the warm weather comes, there is a car show in the back parking lot of a burger king/office building complex off one of the main roads in my area, and it's about 5 minutes away from work for me. So I get out of work at 6, and I head over to take a look, as I'd missed the first 2 weeks of the show ( they meet every Monday night from about 430 to 830-ish, depending on weather ). So I'm walking around, drinking in the glory ( being 17 years old, I missed out on the years of growing up with cars like 396 Camaros and Chevelles, 427 'vettes, 428 mustangs, etc etc ). As I'm walking around, a Yellow 1968 Chevy Nova catches my eye. The hood is popped and so is the trunk. The first thing I notice is the fly-eye air cleaner, And I'm like hey, reminds me of a Motion car. Then I move to the side of the car, and on the window above the quarter panel is a one the yellow Motion Performance stickers. Now I'm realllllly interested. I keep looking all around the car, and I notice the 427 tags on the fenders, as well as the Phase I style paint on the hood. I look in the interior, and see a 'Sun' tach ( I can't remember exactly what it said, but the tach looked exactly the same as the pictures of others that have been posted here before. ), and I look at the trunk and see a Baldwin Chevrolet sticker on the trunk. At this point I'm excited as hell, but I'm figuring its a clone, because hey, what are the chances that a REAL motion car would be in my little home town? Lo and behold, the owner is standing behind the car as I'm searching around it like a hound dog. After I was done letting my jaw drill holes in the asphalt for a few minutes, I got up the nerve to go over and ask him about the car. I think it may have taken him by suprise that a 17 year old kid was asking some questions that weren't completely stupid about a car that was built 40 years ago. Anyhow, He ( throughout this ordeal, I forgot to get his name! Idiot! *smacks forehead* ) says that the car is indeed a real Baldwin Motion car. I asked him about having a letter from Joel Rosen, and lets just say he didn't agree with the whole paying $1500 deal. He bought the car 4 years ago from out west, California I believe. He mentioned taking it to 2 shows in Pennsylvania last year, but I fail to recall the names of the shows. The car looked to be in perfect shape, and must have undergone a restoration not all that long ago. While on subject, he also mentioned that he recently purchased a Holley 3-barrel carb off ebay. He was still trying to work out some bugs getting everything to run correctly, so he had put on a 4-barrel just to get it running and driving around. He'd just put 4.56 gears in it very recently, and was essentially driving it around to break them in. I was so awestruck by the whole thing that I went home and grabbed my camera, and came back. I took at least 10-20 pictures of the car, and all the little details I'd noticed. I also took pictures of just about every other car there, but spent a lot more time on this one lol. When I get home from work later today, I'm going to try and post the pictures I took. I didn't know if anybody had already posted something on this car, but I figured it'd be a cool thing to share anyway https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Hey James - you got us all on the edge of our seats. One thing tho - we took a vote. In order for you to continue on this website you will HAVE to modify your user name.............................................. ................................ Drop the " n' dumb "!!!!!
So far we have seen NO evidence of such and we love having the young generation so engaged in the vintage muscle car world!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

Hey guys, sorry it took so long to try and get these up here, the past few days haven't been too kind to me. I found out what it's like to hit a Jersey barrier, and it isn't fun. Wreck wasn't my fault, but alas, I'm still paying damage because the other guy took off. But enough of that, on with the photos!

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I was going on the honor system, and being a kid, I really don't know if the car is real or not. I can only take the owner's word for it. If the car is not real, I apologize. But it is still nice to look at, isn't it?

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
It's a beautiful car, and I appreciate your taking the time to post it - maybe it is real - I'm no expert - but it doesn't look so to me.
In this world its better to be naive and a believer then an old cynic like some of us! Welcome aboard and thanks! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

So that really doesn't make it a MOTiON car. And it also doesn't mean it isn't https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Hopefully the guy is enjoying it, whatever the case may be. Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I talked to that guy and I think he was from Connecticut??? It was an original 6cyl car that was rust free. I have pics of it from Super Chevy at Maple Grove.

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
The vin number to the car starts with 11327 or it did at one time. The trim tag is a repo, the car started life with a bench seat. Bob

Just an early car. It looks to be a December 67 built car and 735 designates it as having a black vinyl bucket interior. The "11427" on the trim tag doesn't mean anything, almost all Novas had that trim tag wheather they were 4,6 or 8 cylinder cars. The VIN on the dash will tell how many cylinders the car had. Looks like the correct Trim Tag to me and it is a very nice car, Butternut Yellow and black https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. I don't know about it being a Motion modified or baldwin Motion car but it is a sweet ride. Thanks for posting the photos James, I like to see any nice 68 Nova https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Tommy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Are those original trim tag rivots?
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I was wondering that myself sammmy?? I know those trim tags don't come out looking that nice when you strip the paint off of them.
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I don't know about the rivots. My 68's have the original rivots and they are different than those being that they have holes in the middle of the rivots. I still think the tag itself is fine but it may have been off the car and reinstalled with the wrong style rivot.

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
...nice pics!...
I guess I would have to be skeptical, considering he is "not agreeing with the $1500 for verification" unless he has original paperwork... But hey...it always pays to spot a car and check it out...thanks for sharing... |

The trim tag has to be a fake or off another car, code 735 is for bucket seats I sat in this car and it had a bench seat in it. My buddy pasted on the car and the present owner bought it. There is no way it left Motion with a 427 in it. Bob |
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
That makes sense now Bob. You weren't that specific in your earlier post. You led me to think you were replying to Jeds statement not having seen the car yourself. Thanks for clarifying it.

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Sorry to bring this back from the past... been lurking around here for awhile, But I know this car very well, I understand being cautious It does have stacks of paperwork and baldwin paperwork. It does get driven locally (He is from RI) it might not be a perfect point car, but not far from it. It mostly gets put into a trailer and taken to shows. Check out Goodguys where it won and finalist another year. Currently it is parked in a garage less than 100 yards from me with a blown real main seal and waiting to be fixed in the spring. Next to some other interesting vehicles... Sorry I just wanted to clear the air.. If its fake I would be surprised the owner is a stand up guy and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He is standing in the back round in one of the pics.

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
It looks fake to me. Not enough Motion pieces on it in my opinion. Nice car though.
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I think its a nice car. Doesn't matter to me whether its real or not as long as the guy that owns it is happy
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Hi Chew...The issue is a post above where HighPerf says he sat in the car when it had a bench seat and a 6 cylinder.

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Btw thank you I can use all the blessing I can get..
A far smaller Chevy snagged the title at the 17th East Coast Nationals, held at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York, from September 12-14: the big-block 1968 COPO Chevy II owned by David and Cheryl Horton of Bristol, Rhode Island. Delivered to Baldwin Chevrolet and fortified with a 425hp, 427-cu.in. big-block, this numbers-matching machine sports the factory Butternut Yellow hue and an M21 four-speed. From http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/..._feature8.html Same car, same owner.... Sorry to be like this... he loves the car and his others also and does enjoy it... it's a beast on the road, like I said except right now the underside is coated in oil from a blown rear seal... booooooo |
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
might just be a different car or the seats changed? i do not know... maybe a 6 cyl. in 1968 but I think they all went into baldwin with the 396's? I do not know much about them excet I have seen a ton of their cars from the vettes, camaros, and monte carlos only because I am from NJ and had family in Baldwin LI... Seems like quite a few of their cars can still be seen at a local cruise night on rt. 23 in northern NJ on Thurs. nights.....
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Btw the one tribute car I see does have bench seats, light interior and a 427 on the hood, This car has full black buckets and no 427 emblem on the hood..... Just saying.... Sorry I am defending so hard here, it's just he is the nicest and most honest guy you can ever meet.... He was a 2nd or third generation restaurant owner here in RI and has since retired and sold it to his daughter, and would do anything to help anybody out. Plus a retired High School teacher....

Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
Oh and when did highperf. sit in it? just wondering since the current ownwer has had it since 1976 or 77 if I am not mistaken.
|
Re: '68 Yellow Motion Nova
I would love to see vintage pictures of this car in the late 1970's, as the current restoration looks like they replaced all of the unique items with reproduction ebay items. Real numbers matching car?
Chew, you really seem to be quite the champion for this guy and his car. This site is full of nice guys so ease up and try and look at a bit more objectively- at least for 1 post. |
