Re: Update from St. Louis
Good to meet you yesterday Rusty. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif
Like you said, a fairly good day at the track, even with the Timing troubles. Most of the guys I talked to were smiling about it. TRULY Nostalgia racing, with a Flagman handling the Starting line duties. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Unfortunately the weather played a part late in the afternoon and all activities came to a halt by 6 PM. HOWEVER, not before one pretty cool Ceremony. The Musclecar Reunion organizers Honored five individuals from their "Legends of Speed" area, and inducted them into their Hall of Fame. Four of the five individuals are Ronnie Sox, represented by his wife Diane, Don "Big Daddy" Garlits, Larry Reyes and the "Hawaiian', Mr. Roland Leong. All truly deserving individuals, and very gracious during the ceremony and all day long. Roland and Larry were signing autographs all day right next to Tom, Diana and Rob and we chatted with them a couple of times. Very accessible and accomodating! The Fifth person inducted into the hall of Fame was Fred Gibb, and as usual was represented by our very good friends Helen and Nancy Gibb. Both these ladies were on hand all day Saturday and will be there again today. I understand there was a Formal Awards presentation to take place this morning before the Racing kicks off again. Again , due to inclement and serious weather conditions rolling in later Saturday, everything planned for yesterday evening was curtailed. I'm about 70 miles North of Gateway and the skies are clear and sunny here now so hopefully they can have a full day of activities today. CONGRATULATIONS to all the Hall of Fame inductees and a BIG https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif to Helen and Nancy Gibb! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Always good to spend time with the folks from LaHarpe, including Bob and Nancy Lionberger. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif OH, BTW,............. Howie really did have the car there....................... and IT RUNS! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Annie can vouch for me because she actually had the nerve to ride with him when he DROVE it back to the trailer! (silly girl!) I have a ton of pix from yesterday that I will try to get to later this afternoon. Hope everything goes well for y'all today. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

No nap yesterday, so he'll be Grumpy today. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
Poor guy barely had a chance to sit down. The car was very well received. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSCF0051-2.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...DSCF0021-2.jpg You'll notice the front wheels are NOT K/H Strippers. He does have them but the 7.60 Stahl tires were a bit too tall and rubbed the back of the fenders so he ran the new wheel combo this weekend. Here's proof he DOES have the full set. http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...R/DSCF0212.jpg |

Re: Update from St. Louis
I want to publicly thank the entire Clary family for their continued friendship and hospitality. My son and his buddy were there Saturday and spent some time talking racing with Rob and Tom. Joel called me on his way home to tell me how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed swapping stories with Rob.
Again, it's all about the friends we've made over the years and look forward to seeing at these events. Thank you to Tom, Diana, Rob and (I assume) Rob's son. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Thanks for posting those Dennis. I tried desperately to make it but at $620 air fair, it was not going to happen. We got to get Joel to come to more of these events. I am looking forward to seeing him again.

Re: Update from St. Louis
Stopped for a couple of shots of the gassers and struck up a conversation with one of the owners. (far left) Saturday was the first time out for this car. He told us he was there with a borrowed truck, borrowed trailer and borrowed slicks. The entire car was built in his garage at home from a sadly rusted hulk he drug out of a ditch around Poplar Bluff, MO. Paid $200 for the body and frame then patched it all back together. The photos he had of the entire project were amazing. The top tag is the original VIN tag for the car.

Re: Update from St. Louis
As usual, great to see everyone! Nothing like rolling the Camaro out of the trailer and running a 12.32 one day and then a 12.23 the next! And with all the junk still in the trunk no less! Guess the old man had to show me he wasn't quite retired yet!! He made running low 12s look as easy as rollin' outta bed!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif
Dennis, I was in hog heaven talking to you and your gang...nothing better than hearing from folks who've been around the racing world and are willing to share! You really should drag that boy of yours along more often! LOL!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Kim, as always, your knowledge of the ins/outs of this hobby blows my mind! And, you seem to always make me laugh! Even if it is at your expense! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Congrats to the Gibb folks...well deserving honor...and in the very first legion of honor to boot! Speaks volumes about the respect level the hobby has for all things Gibb... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Big props to Rusty & Steve for doing the legwork on the FAST class...and I'm sure forgetting some folks, and I apologize if I do, but another great event...may not have had *quite* the nostalgic feel of KCIR, but it's hard to argue with asphalt pits and a KILLER track! |
Re: Update from St. Louis
This is Phil Pofal's (Firesuit Phil) 46 Ford..he built the car back in the late 50's/Early 60's (Oldsmobile Powered) and is having the time of his life Traveling and Racing in the Gasser Circuit........Dennis......."Great" Shots and it looks like a Good time was had by All.........

Re: Update from St. Louis
I never did find the '46 in the pits, but then ALL the Gasser guys were way down in the South end. He could have been behind the three guys I talked with. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Olds power eh? True Nostalgia! Lots of the original Gassers ran the Olds engine AND Hydro tranny. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif All those guys (and the NS/S guys too) look like they're enjoying themselves. Hope they have as much fun putting on the show as we did watching them. Wish you and the purse lady could have been there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif And yes, Howie's car DOES look great,................. but it sounds even better. For all the grief I give him, I gotta also give him this. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
