Not really muscle found but real cool to me..
I come from a car family, in fact, grew up sweeping bays, stocking parts, washing cars, etc. in my grandfathers dealership in Tucson Az. He was a dealer for various brands but for the time I remember he sold mercedes and datsun up until he sold the franchises and closed it in 1976 time frame. Anyway, I have lots of memorabilia and have looked casually for many years for a benz or z car sold at his dealership, "Bill Edel Motors" and today I bought a 260Z that the original owner kept for 30+ years still in Tucson. I would like to say its in perfect shape but when parked it was put under a tree about 6 years ago so the cowl area has a little rust but nothing that can't be fixed. rest is original paint, interior, and drivetrain intact. Cool part, in the glovebox was the warranty card, owners manual, etc. stamped and sold on my 10th birthday by my grandfather. I guess this is the new largest piece of memorabilia you could say and eventually will sit right up there with my deuce!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Well, we collect things for different reasons that have meaning for us. That sounds like a cool find!
I'd still like to find a nice 510 2 door. I used to think of them as a Japanese Nova. Such clean styling and looked good with a set of nice rims. |

Re: Not really muscle found but real cool to me..
Terrific score Bill. Those 260s are rare and were only made for a year or two. During the summers after high school I worked in my step Dad's dealership....Mercedes Benz, Datsun, & Jeep in Indiana, PA as a grease monkey, car transfers, go-for, assistant to the assistant service manager, chief sweeper, etc., etc.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif . Small world! Am looking forward to seeing your Z. I like those sleek screamers too.
Congrats! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |

Sounds like a neat car to me. In a sea of Camaros and Corvettes at a car show, a good looking Z-car or 510 will catch my eye everytime. Anybody remember the Scarabs or the monster Miatas? Heck I keep looking at V8 Vegas or RWD GTS Corollas on e-bay for something different.

Believe it or not I was getting a spanking from one of those damn datsuns (4NJNK) running the strip from Baldwin in my 65 SS Impala. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Wound up getting my first speeder and a red light cause I couldn't get both feet on the brake pedal!
That little F@$ker got away. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif |

I appreciate the comments guys, here are some pictures as brought home and had been sitting for years but washed by mother nature. The paint code seems to go by two names, light gold metallic and sandy brown metallic and will need repainted as you can see the primer showing through the sun baked off paint.
http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%20front.JPG by the way, these struts appear original and still hold the hatch up.. try that with todays stuff.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%20inside%20hatch.jpg http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%20louvers%20rear.jpg http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%20rear%20quarter.jpg http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%20engine.jpg and the money shot for me, with names removed to protect the inocent, selling dealer on the warranty sheet/plate. Scan isn't real clear since the stamp is in light blue but you can make it out.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif http://members.cox.net/bilede/tn_z%2...20x%20name.JPG |

Nice pix Bill. I'm sure she will clean up real fine. Those in-line sixes sing a very sweet high rpm song. I had an opportunity to deliver a 1st yr 280Z from Indiana, PA to a dealer in Youngstown over a weekend. I picked up a girl friend in Boardman for a nice date and late that night after dropping her off I made a high speed run from Boardman over to Canfield where I was staying. Passing by Mill Creek Park I caught the attention of a local yokal who pulled me over. Thank goodness he did'nt have his radar on and gave me a pass......whew!!!! Good times. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Sam let me guess that you were delivering the car for some small amount of money like $50-$100? I would ruin a whole week end delivering cars for the dealer I worked at up in Fresno Ca.just so I could drive a new car around. I remember having to get a new Supra (1984) to the bay area by 11:00am Saturday morning. It was so foggy that I could not see too the end of the hood but I was going so fast that icicles were developing on the underside of the rear wing. Yea those were the days. Bill get a list of trim parts that you are going to need and hit your local Nissan store ASAP because this stuff is becoming harder to find every day. Allot of people have fond memories of these cars and they are getting restored. Bruce thanks for the picture of the Scarab. If I remember right the car were built in San Jose Ca. and they used Traco engines.

Cool thread and great grab Bill!.
Love the family dealership thing also how you're your grandfather's namesake!. Some of the greatest times of my life were when I worked at a Benz dealership too...summer weekends w/ new SL's, speed & girls are an impossible combination to beat...or forget!. I had some fun w/ early Z-cars and 510's too also have been waiting patiently for a clean 510 Coupe to roll into my life again someday...B Sedan racer maybe?! Check the front inside framerails Bill and get some Boeshield or something in there if all's Ok.. I repaired a few of them back in the day and rust seem to pick on those areas first.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif ~ Pete |

Very cool! Glad you scored this one with some cool history..family! I have a buddy that had a twin to this car.We yanked the motor and put in a 355 chevy and a glide. That car was awesome..Never blew anything in the driveline either....We tried like hell! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif
