Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
An old issue of Corvette News had a '75 (I believe) Silver Coupe with Silver Leather interior as the cover car. Always loved that combination. Silver with the gunmetal interior should offer just enough contrast to be Extra https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. Now,.......... what color top? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif
As for the rack, I could go either way. Might be cool to leave it in place. Overall I give it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif. |
Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Very cool! My uncle has a steel cities grey 71.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
The car will have the original white top again if we paint it silver. The car still has its orig dated rally wheels and orig white lettered spare.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Corvettes didn't come with racks from the factory. It was added at the dealership along with the passenger side mirror.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
The car was optioned like a L71 427-435hp car. It has the 4:11 gears, trans ign, F41 susp, heavy duty clutch, speed warning, M-21 but is only a L36 427-390. The orig owner must have ran out of money when he got to the engine order box. He must have fell about $215 bucks short on the L71 and bout $800 of the L88 haha.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Great car!
My $.02 worth is lose the rack, paint it silver, put the white top back on. That color combo will be killer! Even though I really don't care, it will be original too. |
Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
I've never seen a non-solid lifter big block (ZR1 excluded)with F-41 suspension. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I've never seen this option on a 390 horse 427. I didn't think that the 4:11 gear was available with the 390 horse motor. Does the car have a tank sticker? If factory optioned the way you state, it has everything a 435 could have. It looks like a 6,500 RPM redline on the tach. Are you sure it wasn't a 435 HP car? Is the engine in the car the original engine?

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
I can assure you this car has never been messed with. The 427/390 has never been out of the car. Very orig front pad orig broach marks with MH suffix code designating 427/390 4sp K66ign very clear vin and assembly date. It has orignal rear spring and (EA)front spring tag code for HD susp. I dont doubt the options on the car, I do think that it is rare. Hell, try to find a 390hp trans ign distributor. Ive been around vettes a long time and I see weird things all the time. And the tank stick is on the tank in the car.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Its not a 6,500 rpm redline tach. It 5,700rpm redline

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Neat, nice shot of the tach. The tank sticker may show some type of special order (COPO?) with the F41 and 4:11 gears. It would be interesting to drop the tank and see the sticker.
Silver/silver is beautiful with redlines. I had that in a '68 435 roadster and it was stunning. |
Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
When I pull the body off the frame I plan on that. I really like redlines but it orig had white letters. The interior is completely original except carpet and I hate to replace but its just bad enough that I have to

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Tim do you have any pics of your sil/siv 68? Is silverstone silver the same paint code as Cortez. I was considering doing the car in Lacquer if I can find it.
|
Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
I don't have any shots of the car. I believe it sold at BJ a few years ago. Real car with original engine and lots of paperwork.

Re: 1969 427 Vette Project
Nasblu, Yes, Silverstone silver and Cortez silver are both paint code 986. |
