Exactly... and the door jamb tag...

He says it is missing the front end... how cool would it be if the Hood on Dana's 68 Yenko was the one off of this car?

Brian,

The Yenko crest emblem looks non-chrome as well. I was to
the understanding that the originals were all painted over
chrome.

Re: 68 Yenko Barn find

The 140 speedo is a VERY GOOD sign...as it is a COPO only item. The 427 emblem is the style typically used on 69 Yenko cars...but that's not to say they weren't being used on some of the later completed 68s. Yenko used what they had on hand, and were using both styles of 427 emblems on Chevelles in 69, so it wasn't written in stone as to which cars got what. It's entirely possible the 69 styles were in hand and being used in 68. It's my opinion that the pitted up 427 emblem on the back of that car has been there a LONG time...and it originated from Yenko. Without seeing the car in person it's tough to call it the real deal...but from what I see it definitely warrants a closer look. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif

Chrome Yenko badges didnt debut til 1970, and were stick-on rather than pinned. 67's had no Yenko emblems at all, and 68/69 used the same white painted Yenko emblems with 2 pins, as this car has...weird thing to me is that it looks like the 427 emblem was stuck on instead of pinned...I don't see any holes. As for the emblem being a 69 style, I agree, but wouldn't say 68's couldn't have had em, I have old pics of 69's with 68 style 427's on them, so I could believe a few 68's coulda had the "69" style ones (with the large bar under the 427) put on too... I'm still thinkin' theres a chance this guy struck gold, hard to be sure at this point though...as stated, look for a door tag and a 140 speedometer for starters, SW tach or holes where it was, trim tag, etc...

...and Dana, he's gonna want his hood back. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Very exciting! I love these barn find stories. Here is a pic of my original emblems, for what it's worth. I haven't started tearing the car apart yet, but have been busy collecting things for it. I am in talks now with a familiar restorer. And, unless he has my orig hood to trade, he is not getting mine. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif

looks like they're the correct raw potmetal, then painted...Again, no chrome emblems til the 70 stick ons... here's both versions for comparison... the chrome 70 style, painted 68/69 style, and a raw 68/69 style with paint removed. Note the stars on the chrome ones are bigger than the 68/69 versions...There's actually at least 2 different versions of the 70 ones too, with a difference in the shape of the "O". Yeah, I have too much time on my hands.

Not on any originals I have. That goes for the 68/69 ones as well as the 70 chrome ones... Some repros awhile back had part numbers...but some repros don't... Here's the back of a real deal 68/69. (One pin is broken off.)

And since I'm digging through my closet, here's some examples of the "68 style" 427 emblems vs. the "69 style" ones with the bar underneath, although as I said, i think the 2 could have been used interchangably at some point in production, most likely during the end of the 68's/beginning of 69's. The top ones are GM 4 2 7 numerals as used in 67... Dig the 69 one on the left that was cut at an angle to fit the fender trim on a 69 sYc Chevelle... this isn't how most were, but someone got their measurements off a bit apparently... remember, measure twice, drill once...or have a big 'ol file handy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Joe,

Do you have an original emblem, or image of one, that shows
how they were painted for their initial installation at the
dealership? I'm looking for a pristine example of one at this point.
Are the ones on epay correct in terms of color?

Re: 68 Yenko Barn find

The one in the top center of the first pic I posted is an original, with original paint. White background, silver behind the Yenko lettering, blue letters, blue on top, red and white stripes below. Most of the repros seem to be painted correctly. But as Big Steve noted, sometimes they messed up the colors at Yenko... they were all hand painted. The above one is the "standard" way most were done though...

Nuch, Earl just reminded me of something with his post... the 70 chrome emblems for the deuce were painted differently than the 68/69 ones... I assumed you were talking about the pinned/non-chrome 68/69 ones, as those are the ones you see for sale on ebay most often. i'f you were referring to the 70 Deuce ones, the way the ones in MNYenko's post are painted is correct for 70. They are very nice repros too, I have one on the back of my daily driver! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Contact him if you need the 70 style. Oh, and thanks for the props Bob... Joe is correct about the ones Earl (really Earl's wife)hand paints. They are very nice. That's what you see on the Moses deuce in those pics of Joe's, and Steve's deuces.
