Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
Just looking for idea's on preserving build sheets, is it good to laminate these, or is there a better way to be able to view these and not damage them any further, the laminate sheets I have are sticky and ounce they are done, they are DONE. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
I would make a very good photocopy of it and then laminate that. I think if you keep the original tucked safely away, dry and out of light it should keep preserved.. I just don't like the idea of laminating the original because, like you said, once its done, its done...

I wouldn't. I'd either encase them in acid free vinyl or encase them in glass.

Archival quality sleeve and keep it out of the light...

Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
I have taken high resolution photos of mine and then put them in a protective box and tucked them away in a safe (fireproof).
you can reproduce them with your computer, blow them up Etc. My concern would be once they are laminated how would you prove they were original??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

You could scan it and then print it on a nice color printer then laminate it.
The quality of scanners and printers these days is pretty impressive. If you dont own a scanner/printer im sure a Kwik Kopy or similar store will do it for a small price and they can probably laminate it too. |

Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
Laminating it would actually be permanent... it would melt the plastic to the build sheet or adhesive it to the build sheet...

The plastic melts into the upper layers of the document. If you remember being 17 and trying to take your driver's license out of the lamination to change the date so you looked older, you will know what I mean. Nowadays all of us are trying to alter them to look younger. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
You are correct, I tried to take a laminated document apart and does not work, you will destroy the document.

Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
My 68 GTO build sheet was in the floor (of the car) and was in a bunch of pieces and half destroyed...
I used archival illustration board and an archival glue and pieced it back together as best as possible... http://www.crossroadspaper.com/GTO%2...heet%20all.jpg The 2 I found in the Lemans parts car I bought were perfect... of course! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: Build sheets (is laminating a good idea)?
All my paper is in pretty good shape. I scanned and saved it all into my comp, then printed them out for use while keeping the originals in a safe place.
POPs will scan pretty well also. |
