sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Back in the summer I was thinking on getting another car. I always wanted to get another 69 nova again and was looking to find a somewhat decent one or maybe even a 66-67 small block, 4 speed chevelle. Could not find any novas but found a pretty nice chevelle at Coffees Corvettes in Scranton, Pa. After not being able to strike a deal on the chevelle I was looking once again.
Entering the scene was good ole Marlin Spotts our resident nova guru! He gave me a phone number of a guy in North Carolina with a 69 SS survivor nova 4 speed. Well that made my day. I contacted the guy so we went back and forth for over a month trying to cut a deal. Neither of us would budge! Again contacting Marlin about the car and having Don White (GTO DON) tell me I BETTER buy it just gave me the little umph I needed for the decision. I knew Marlin and Tommy K. saw the car and Don and I saw some nice pictures of the nova I felt I was ok. Car was picked up (on all arrangements made by the seller) and delivered the same day, a rainy Friday in October. Pouring rain but it got here. My first survivor car. Old blue lived in California all its life till coming to North Carolina for a brief stay over. I loved the car at first site and knew I was the type of person who could own a survivor. 39,000 original miles with original paint, drive train, interior, exhaust, battery cables, spare tire and clutch. Never been blown in with any paint or any chrome replaced. Even my wife said I did good! And yes Benny it does have some docs!! In the past few weeks I was able to contact the original owner and have conversations with him about his old car. He was forced to sell in 2004 to a corvette friend of his because he lost his job to NAFTA. He was a strawberry farmer/picker for 40 years. He told me about when he ordered the car from Home Motors in Santa Maria (dealership is still there) in October of 1968 and when he picked it up in late December of 68. I was impressed with his memory. The car still retains the original black plates with the California dirt clinging to the back. Doing a little maintenance and taking my time and doing some real elbow grease type of cleaning the little nova is looking great! It gets driven every week and will see a couple local car shows in the summer. Again I would like to thank Marlin for dialing me in on the car, Donny for convincing me it was a good deal, and Jeff Grote (the owner) in North Carolina for being patient and having great communication skills. And thanks for this site and the guys that make it up. Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
I can't wait to see that thing in person! The survivor cars seem like an old friend that hasn't changed. I can only imagine what it would have been like to be in the factory the day these cars were built. Beautiful color too! Can I bribe you with some Kakes for a ride??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Donnie, I put the original California plate on the front with the stickers for 1969 looks good. Since the pictures, I located the original shifter for the car and in the process of having the guy send it to me now. Like pulling teeth but hopefully I will get it shortly. It was placed in the Hurst box when the Hurst was inatalled some time in January of 1969. Don White got me into these survivor cars and man its like Heaven, well........ almost! I just appreciate this original true survivor stuff more and more. If these cars only could talk. |

We first saw this car at the 2006 Nova Nationals, parked off by itself. We (Brian, Joe, TomK, etc...) just swarmed this thing - utterly amazed at it's preservation! Cool car, definitely one of the benchmark Novas. Well done Sammy! Wanna race? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |

Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Brian and I were discussing the how/why the assy line worker wrote 'CAT' inside the trunk with the foam seam sealer!
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
He/she was just doing a personal autograph. Plus that person knew a guy named Marlin Spotts would ask that question some 36 years later. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif Race...I have not even done a burn out in that car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Shame on you! I wanna see a smokey burnout pic asap, then we will meet up at the grove to see how well you've got that thing tuned! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Nope! Can't compete with the Deuces!!! Plus if I do a burn out, I don't want to take the chance on losing any of the original MICRO wheel weights! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
I understand https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I'm enjoying turning the tables on ya after years of you abusing me about my Day 1 stuff! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif What do they say... something about what goes 'round, comes 'round?
Awesome car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
I hope this car doesn't have positraction. "You'll wear out the tires" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
This is a beautiful car in very good hands. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Makes a fine complement to the Z. Your MR69 Sammy! I think Carlisle is a great idea. What do you say Sam? Let's bring it there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I can't wait to see it. |
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
NO Day-2 for the nova. The Z/28 yes but the nova no. Got to have one Day-2 and one original in my opinion. If I had to restore the nova that may be a different story but a survivor car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif I may get tired of the wheels but Donnie already set me up with that.
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Very nice Sammy!!! Survivor cars are becoming more popular....hope to see this Nova at the Nova Nationals in Gettysburg. A set of Cragars would look wild on that ride https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Bring it to Bloomington Gold for the First annual "open to all Survivors cars" show.
Very impressive! Especially from a Guy who considers Tasty Kakes to be cuisine! BTW, The Kids and I have tried one of each type https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Small block SS car, very very cool!! I love the dill valve stem caps topping off the XT steel wheels!!!
Very Nice, good luck w/the car.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif Rich |
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Great car Sam. What wheels are you gonna throw on it when you get tired of the XTs?
|
Re: sc69sam's 1969 SS Nova!
Hey, is the ebay add for that beautiful Lemans Blue 69 SS? What is the reserve at?? I'm willing to bid 30,000 Kakes for it and 3,000 wit without whizz and 2,000 scrapple patties! I'm gonna git a ride in it somehow! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
You did a lot of detail work to it and it looks great! I just can't get over that Lemans Blue and how good it looks out in the sun! |
