Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Someone was in a hurry that day! I guess it's hard to spray the back of the lid when it's on the car?

Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Is that going to be duplicated in the resto?
|
Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
That's normal. There should not be paint under the hinges bec/ the lid was painted while installed on the car. The back edge never gets a lot of paint bec/ it's too difficult to get the gun at the right angle.

i'm not sure what ken is going to do...
he's the doctor https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
He'll shoot with DP50 to get the plain steel look, then dust on the orange paint after installing it on the car. If not, we have people in the area that will visit him https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Sorry, DP50LF - gotta use the Lead Free stuff now-a-days! |
Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
This on has a lot less paint than most I've seen. None have enough, but I tend to think this has less as it's a paint delete, and wasn't painted on the line. You'd think that it would be a better paint job because of that, but appears to be worse. And I honestly can't find any primer. It looks like they shot right over the bare metal. :dunno

Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Interested to know if the original trunk lid stickers will be left in placed or removed then replaced, or how that will be handled?
Thanks! |
Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
If you paint it, you'll have to replace the tags. It has a few scratches, but it could be left for "patina".

Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Question: If the assembly plant didn't paint the car, why are the trunk stickers there in the first place? Were they shipped with the body to be affixed later?

[/ QUOTE ] It's wasn't paint delete, it was special paint. The car would have been painted on the line just like any other car, just a different color. [/ QUOTE ] I agree, special paint is the more correct term. There were rumored back in the day to have been paint delete cars that were painted at the dealership. Other than perhaps bodies in white, I don't know of any that have been documented that way. It appears that this car did spend time in the paint shop for something as that tag appears to me to address a paint issue, but does not state rework. The lack of the tag addressing an area of the paint on the car is what makes me think the majority of it was shot off line. If we hung a rework tag on something at our plant, you had to specify what was wrong, and that it was rejected. This tag just says to send it to the paint shop. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
They wouldn't take special paint cars off-line, they were painted on-line with the other cars. They just cleared the guns and shot the special paint that was provided. And a container of that same paint went over to the Chevrolet side so they could paint the front clip.
Looks like that tag says SPECIAL on the one side - to note it was a special paint car. Neat find! |

looks like perhaps riverside gold was cleared out of the paint gun?? color spots under the vinyl roof. [/ QUOTE ] Our first thought was that this color was cleared out of the guns before shooting the orange. The problem is, that Riverside gold is a Corvette only color in 69. That color should not have been on the line (if this is where the painting took place) as it was not a Nova color. We also thought maybe that with a -- paint code, it was ment to be this color, but this is the only area where this color is on the car. You can see the paint layers on the left qtr down to bare metal and It's orange. We think maybe, that there was a mix code mistake. H/O (72) in my Dupont book shows (990) Lucite code 5021LM. Riverside gold is (980) 5029L lucite Corvette only. Perhaps they got the wrong color, shot the middle to clear what they had when they discovered it, shot the bottoms of the pillars with the orange, and blacked the edges with the same color that was used on the inner door window frames. If you look, you can also see there are a lot of areas with factory primer still showing that were not top coated with anything. Now the other issue is that there are no factory studs for the Vtop. There were also no staples. The top was cut to fit around the molding clips. There is also no callout for a V top on the trim tag. Until I removed the top, I was pretty sure this was a dealer installed top. Now I'm more inclined to believe this was a factory job. Perhaps the tag showing the car was sent to the factory body shop had more to do with the top install than the -- color. We've sent pics to Brian H., and Marlin. I invite anyone to stop by and take a look. I'd like to find the answer to what we have here. I personally believe we have A, or maybe more factory screw ups. But any help in solving this would be appreciated Thanks, Schonye |
Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Olymic gold was a 69 Nova color.

Re: 1969 -- paint code delete hugger orange nova
Kurt, I have a 69 X66 Olympic gold camaro sitting 10 feet away from this car. It's not Olympic gold.
