True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
I was asked to post this by our own JoeG, Joel Rosen and Marty Schorr. It's my pleasure...
Hi Verne, Joel asked me to post this cool photo of Motion history, so if you could do me this favor and post the photo and explanation from Marty,-------- I'll will paint 409's rule on the side of my car.......Joe -----Original Message----- From: Mr. Motion [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2008 10:49 AM To: JOE GUERRA Subject: Fw: MOTION RULES! Thought you'd get a kick out of this scan of an original NHRA National Record looks like. It originally hung in Mr. Motion's office. Seven years into the Baldwin-Motion program, the "company cars" were still kicking ass. Only weeks before the record meet in Miami, this 454 Camaro set both ends of the record at Suffolk, VA. And, ran against Bill Mitchell in the Motion Minicar H/Gasser for Eliminator. The Camaro won that as well. They really were good old days! Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
That is super cool. Thanks for sharing... and Verne, awesome shot of the MP Camaro. Is that from a magazine or is it an actual photo?
I have two original NHRA "Application For NHRA Drag Strip Record" carbon papers from Motion Performance. One is for Mitchell's Motion Mini Car and the other is Zul/Kuafman's 454 Camaro. Maybe I'll post a photo to share with the community. Any interest in seeing 30 year old paper? -Dan |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
Ha! That thing is sitting right to the left of me as I write this, in 1/18 scale. Very cool to look at. Matter of fact I have all the BM Camaros in die cast and my favorite one of all the Mexican in plastic.

Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
Dan,
That's an actual photo I have, not from a magazine. According to Marty, it's the very same car as the "Ribbon Car". I don't know any more history on it; I'm just a lowly middle man with a small collection from other very good people who have shared with me. It IS a great photo though, isn't it???? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

It was the ribbon, then white-black "Motion" striping, and then the yellow car you see here. Neat photo. Here is a photo of my records in one of my displays with some super rare Motion items. Rare photos, a business card, decals, etc. Enjoy, -Dan http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...anksMotion.jpg |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
That NHRA certificate is a cool item.
Looking through a scrapbook of photos of Motion sponsored drag cars, I see the 70 MP Camaro was a NHRA national record holder in 70,71,72,73. It is painted on the car in different photos in the 3 different paint colors. Also interesting that it ran in at least 3 different classes. - A/MP, B/MP, C/GAS |

this diecast has the Kaufman and Cancilleri names on the door just like the ribbon version. It didn't make it to the yellow one. |

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks Joe. Nothing beats these Motion items... my favorites -- our favorites. This is just a small portion of the collection but many items are seldom seen, like the MP/Joel Rosen business card. I have another I could share. I hate to put my name all over the picture but with scamming and counterfeiting today, I'd like not to run the chance of reproduction with these rare items. -Dan |

Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
Here's my favorite piece of Motion Memorabilia...this was my first SCR when Joel came with his 4 buddies (John, Gary, Phil, Marty)...I had this 1969 Supercar Club Membership letter (w/ envelope) that I had all 5 guys sign and took a pic of each of them signing it for authentication...Joel said it's been a long time since he's seen one of those...the envelope was postmarked June 12, 1969.

Looked good also in all 3 colors but the ribbon paint job was extra cool. Noticed no "Baldwin" on the yellow painted version. |

I've got the app for the 72 A/MP Motion Camaro...9.54 w/a 432ci....in 1974. Cool stuff !

Of course anyone can dispute this as I am old, forgetful, balding and only human. Dog, have you pictures or old newspapers scanned with dates to back me up or shoot me down? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
I'm drawing a blank Chris, unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you - I remember going there in late '76 getting a price on a Yellow RS they had in the lot, but I can't remember what name they were going by at that time. (I'm ashamed to say I would up getting an XR-7, though I did love that car)
I'll see if I have anything that will clarify the dates. |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
That's a Baldwin sticker on the back of this '73 - isn't it?
- - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...photos/32a.jpg - From the Baldwin Motion site - "Starting in 1967 and running through 1974, Baldwin-Motion offered SS (425-hp) and Phase III (500-hp and up) big-block Camaros, Novas, Chevelles, Corvettes and Biscayne Street Racer Specials. Cars were sold at Baldwin Chevrolet or Motion Performance, converted by Motion and financed and delivered by Baldwin. Phase III 427 and 454 cars came with a written, money back, quarter-mile performance guaranty from Joel Rosen." |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Record
"After Baldwin Chevrolet and its successors, Williams Chevrolet and Lyons Chevrolet, closed their doors in 1974, Joel Rosen sourced his new Chevrolets from other dealers as well as customers...."

Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Rec
What went in after Lyons, possibly another dealership? Did the original structure remain until the CVS was built in the 90s? I can't recall.
Steve |
Re: True piece of Motion fame: A real National Rec
it closed as an auto dealership after Lyon Chevrolet. It must have been torn down and rebuilt in the mid-late 80's when I was out of state. Before CVS it was a national jewelry chain of some sort. Consumers or Liquidators or something like that in the name maybe. Not sure if that was in the current building though. Not really sure how much this matters except to those guys that buy the repop Baldwin stickers and put them on too late of a car.

this is going off topic but I was curoius so
I pulled the file on the 87 Motion Monte Carlo and it has Lion Chevrolet Inc 964 Merrick Rd, Baldwin NY dated July 1987. Joel had saved all the paperwork on the car. |
